College roundup: WVU Tech men notch win at Bluefield (Va.)

The WVU Tech men's basketball team dropped 92-73 decision to Bluefield College (Va.) Saturday at the Ramey Car Classic in Bluefield.Bluefield's Byron Carpenter and Kearsten Marion powered the Rams (6-5) with 28 and 26 points, respectively. David Rawlinson had 21 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for the Golden Bears (8-7), who have lost three in a row. Terrale Clark added 19 points for Tech.
  • ADVENTIST 64, STATE 61: Harvey Todd scored 15 points as host Washington Adventist pulled away in overtime to down the Yellow Jackets in Takoma Park, Md.
  • West Virginia State (4-4) trailed 57-53 in the waning seconds of regulation but forced OT when Brandon Ross hit a layup with 20 seconds left and - after two missed free throws by the Shock - Anton Hutchins tipped home his own missed shot with six seconds to go.In the OT, Stephon Berry made a layup with 3:58 remaining and the Shock (2-9) never trailed again. The closest State got was 62-61 on two Hutchins free throws with 19 seconds to go, but Todd made two at the line for Adventist at the 11-second mark.Hutchins paced the Jackets with 20 points, and David Ford added 11 points and eight rebounds and Dimitri Abner had 11 points and seven boards. Berry collared 14 rebounds for the Shock.Women
  • UC 81, OHIO VALLEY 71: LeAnne Ross netted 17 points, including five buckets from behind the 3-point arc, as the University of Charleston downed Ohio Valley at Eddie King Gymnasium.
  • Nichole Perry and Kayla Dozier chipped in 12 points apiece for the Golden Eagles (4-2). Jasmine Gibson posted 19 points for Ohio Valley (0-6) while Kayla Parsley recorded a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
  • KENTUCKY STATE 65, WV STATE WOMEN 45: Sharnita Lloyd tossed in 20 points to lift Kentucky State past visiting West Virginia State.
  • LaShell Westfall added 14 points for Thorobrettes (3-4), who led at halftime 29-15.For the Yellow Jackets (3-2), Jasmine Blanton scored a game-high 22 points and was her team's only double-figure scorer.
  • WVU 67, ST. BONAVENTURE 47: Ayana Dunning and Christal Caldwell each posted 17 points as West Virginia cruised past St. Bonaventure at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers (6-2) led 28-13 at halftime. Alaina Walker had 17 points for the Bonnies (5-6).
  • MARSHALL 70, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS: Career-high point totals from forwards Chukwuka Ezeigbo and Veronica Ruiz helped the Marshall women's basketball team earn a 70-66 win against Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill.
  • Ezeigbo and Ruiz each finished with 17 points for the Herd (5-4). Ezeigbo went 5 for 12 from the field and was 7 of 9 from the free-throw line. Ruiz went 6 of 11 from the field and was 5 of 6 from the line.
    Rishonda Napier led Southern Illinois (1-7) with 20 points while Dyana Pierre added 14 points.
  • TECH 77, MILLIGAN 74:  Courtney Sturdivant scored 20 points as the WVU Tech women's basketball team posted a 77-74 overtime win in the Salem International Invitational. Amber Tully added 15 points for the Golden Bears.
