Robbie Dreher chipped in 13 points for the Golden Eagles, extending its winning streak to three games. Lamar Mallory netted 21 points and 13 boards for the Pioneers (4-4), while Jamel Morris had 20 points.
WVU SPORTS: Ashleigh Fossett poured in 29 points as Glenville State downed Charleston 87-84 in women's college basketball Monday in Glenville.
Jessie Coeden netted 25 points for the Golden Eagles (4-3), while LeAnne Ross added 17.
WVU SPORTS: West Virginia guard Bria Holmes won the Big 12 women's freshman of the week honor on Monday. Holmes scored a career-high 15 points off the bench in WVU's 64-48 win over Marshall last week and scored nine points in a victory over St. Bonaventure.
West Virginia women's soccer player Bry McCarthy will participate in a year-end training and assessment camp with the Canadian Women's National Team on Dec. 12-20, in Vancouver, B.C.
McCarthy, a senior outside back, is one of 27 players on the nine-day camp roster for coach John Herdman. Canada is coming off a bronze medal effort at the London 2012 Olympic games. McCarthy became the first WVU defender to win a major conference award with her 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honor.
WVC HONORS: Pitt Johnstown's Bill Luther and West Liberty's C.J. Hester have been named co-West Virginia Conference men's basketball players of the week.
Hester led the No. 1-ranked Hilltoppers to a 2-0 week, amassing two double-doubles and a combined 40 points and 24 rebounds. Luther guided the Mountain Cats to a 1-0 week with a 106-94 win over Bowie State, scoring 34 points including a school-record 10 three-point baskets.
Seton Hill's Katie Gattuso and West Liberty's Jasmin Kiley have earned co-conference women's accolades.
Gattuso netted a double-double in the win at Alderson-Broaddus with 24 points and 11 boards. Kiley led the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 week with huge wins over previously unbeaten West Virginia State and Glenville State, which was undefeated in league play. Against the Pioneers, Kiley came off the bench to contribute 32 points, four rebounds and three assists.
VOLLEYBALL SCRAMBLE: The City of Charleston Parks & Recreation will hold a volleyball scramble from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the North Charleston Community Center. The cost is $20 per person and includes registration and lunch.
