Girls roundup: Ward tallies 40 in GW win vs. Nitro
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rachel Ward erupted for a career-high 40 points, including seven buckets from behind the 3-point arc, as George Washington rolled to a 88-64 home win over Nitro in girls basketball Tuesday.
Kelli Jo Harrison poured in 27 points and 14 rebounds as the Patriots (2-1) held a 47-31 halftime lead.
The Wildcats (3-3) had four players in double digits, including Kelli Douglas (15), Halie Miller (13), Savannah Shamblin (12) and Melissa Belcher (12).
Keke Walker added 17 for the Cougars (3-1). Rachael Mills pumped in 16 points for the Warriors (2-4), while Brittany Wood chipped in 14.
Karli Pinkerton scored a game-high 21 points for the Indians while Ripley's Sarah Williams led the Vikings (0-5) with 11 points.
Jordan Marshall scored 12 points and Bethany Romine 11 for the Huskies (4-1), who will play the Sherman-Liberty Raleigh winner for the championship at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Stevie White had three points for the Bulldogs.
Jordan Lewis led the Tide (3-2) with 18 points and Sarah Massey added 17 and Lacey Pettry finished with 11. Jasmine Law scored 14 points to lead Liberty (0-6) with Stacey Williams pitching in with 10 points.
Shayna Gore contributed 10 points for the Wildcats (4-2). Savannah Winnett and Jordan Presley both tallied 14 points for the Rebels (3-2).
