Area roundup: UC visits Wesleyan, State hosts Glenville

The University of Charleston, fresh off its win over Concord, hits the road again when the Golden Eagles travel to West Virginia Wesleyan today at 4 p.m. in a West Virginia Conference men's basketball matchup.UC (8-2 overall, 4-2 WVC) downed the host Mountain Lions 66-50 Thursday behind Terrell Lipkins' 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting. The Golden Eagles hadn't played for several weeks because of the Christmas holiday.Lipkins tops all scorers for the Golden Eagles at 18.6 points per game, followed Aleksander Kesic (12.3), Evan Faulkner (10.6) and Xavier Humphrey (10.5). Wesleyan (5-4, 2-3), which defeated Seton Hill 79-68 Dec. 31, is led by Kelsey Williams' 18.1 points and Noah Cottrill's 16.7.Also tonight, West Virginia State hosts Glenville State at 7:30 p.m.The Yellow Jackets (4-6, 2-3) lost at Davis & Elkins their last time out, a 78-59 setback Dec. 15, which was also their third straight loss. Anton Hutchins (13.4) and David Ford (12.7) are the only players averaging double figures in scoring for State.Glenville (7-4, 3-3) owns a three-game winning streak after an 89-83 home victory over Salem International Dec. 31. Jamel Morris' 18.9 points leads four players in double digits.

  • TECH SOCCER: The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced WVU Tech as the host school of the 2013 and 2014 men's and women's soccer national championships.The championships will be in Charleston at Schoenbaum Stadium and at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex. The 2013 championships are scheduled for Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 while the 2014 championships are tentatively scheduled for Nov. 5 through Nov. 8.
