Prep roundup: Stowers' strong finish lifts Sissonville past Clay
Trent Stowers scored eight of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter as Sissonville downed visiting Clay County 54-40 in boys basketball Saturday.Zach Null chipped in 13 points for Sissonville (4-4) while Ryan Kelly posted 11. Michael Shamblin had nine points for the Panthers (3-5).
GREATER BECKLEY 84, CROSS LANES 46: Keith Mullins had 24 points and Bailey Jabonne scored 19 to lead undefeated Greater Beckley Christian to the win against visiting Cross Lanes Christian. Elisha Kidd added 11 points for Greater Beckley (4-0). For Cross Lanes (5-7), Tyler Corbin finished with 21 points.
SUMMERS 65, GREENBRIER WEST 46: Summers County got solid games from Ta-Ron Ayers and T.J. Smith to help hand visiting Greenbrier West its first loss of the season. Ayers finished with 24 points and Smith had 21 for the Bobcats (5-2). For Greenbrier West (4-1), Josh Martin had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
TUG VALLEY 89, RICHWOOD 37: Tug Valley jumped out to a 42-14 halftime lead as Panthers picked up a home win.
Mikey Newsome paced Tug Valley with 18 points while Austin Brewer and Josh White added 16 and 14 points, respectively. Levi Mowery and Braden Johnson each had eight points for Richwood.
HERBERT HOOVER 45, RAVENSWOOD 34: Cody Burgess scored 13 points to lead Herbert Hoover past visiting Ravenswood. Aaron Burdette finished with 12 points for the Huskies (5-2). For Ravenswood (2-5), Jake Martin had a team-high 18 points.
POINT 55, HURRICANE 29: Andrea Porter erupted for 24 points and Katie Bruner tallied 18 as host Point Pleasant (3-8) steamrolled to a win. Emily Browning scored 12 points to lead the Redskins.
SISSONVILLE 46, CLAY: Sissonville used a 15-6 fourth-quarter run to hand Clay County its first loss of the season. Karli Pinkerton exploded for 26 points for the Indians (7-2) and Madison Jones contributed 13. Brittany Gould had 12 points for the visiting Panthers (11-1).
GREENBRIER EAST 84, HEDGESVILLE 64: Bianca Andrew scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Chaunte McDowell had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Greenbrier East against visiting Hedgesville. Also for the Spartans (8-0), Elizabeth Romeo had 19 points and Chloe Honaker finished with 12 points and 10 assists. Carly Elliott led Hedgesville (6-6) with 17 points.
SOUTH 78, JOHN MARSHALL 61: Taryn McCutcheon had 24 points and 10 assists to lead visiting Parkersburg South (5-3) to a 78-61 win over John Marshall on Saturday in girls high school basketball.
Also for the Patriots, Kasey Williams added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Keya Bartlett scored 23 points. Kylie Howard tallied 20 points for the Monarchs (9-2).
MAN 64, SHERMAN 54: Summer Sword poured in 26 points as visiting Man registered a win. Taylor Whited scored 18 points for the Hillbillies (5-2) and Mika McCoy chipped in 12. Jordan Lewis scored 22 points to pace Sherman (3-5) while Sarah Massey added 15 and Lacy Pettry 10.
TOLSIA 45, CHAPMANVILLE 42: Krista Maynard scored a game-high 19 points as Tolsia overcame a four-point fourth-quarter deficit and picked up a road win. Jordan Presley threw in 10 points for the Rebels. Kristin Desrocher filled out the stat sheet with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Tigers (5-4).
CROSS LANES 63, GREATER BECKLEY 27: Courtney Kendrick exploded for 29 points as Cross Lanes Christian secured a road win. Kathryn Legg added 15 points and 20 rebounds. Kayla Hill led Greater Beckley Christian with 11 points.
TUG VALLEY 51, RICHWOOD 31: Whitney Evans-Kirk compiled 15 points, five rebounds and three blocks as Tug Valley earned a road win. Amber Linville netted 12 points for the Panthers (6-1), while Hannah Armstrong had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Breanna Mazzella scored 16 points for Richwood (4-5).
