  • WINFIELD 56, LINCOLN CO. 37: Haeley Moore netted 19 points for the visiting Generals. Mara Rhoades chipped in 15 points for Winfield (6-3). Taylor Lucas and Lindsey Prichard had nine points each for the Panthers.
  • VALLEY 56, MONTCALM 32: Abbie Buchan poured in 28 points and Kelsey Bird chipped in 11 as the host Greyhounds (7-0) stayed undefeated.

  • STATE WOMEN LOSE: Atavia Blake scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as West Virginia Wesleyan's women downed West Virginia State 57-51 on Monday at Fleming Hall.The Bobcats (4-6, 3-4 West Virginia Conference) also were paced by Allie Browne's 14 points.Jasmine Blanton led the Yellow Jackets (3-7, 3-4 WVC) with 22 points and nine rebounds. Maria Femia added 10 points while Asia Greenleaf had eight points and nine rebounds.

  • WVC AWARDS: West Liberty's Cedric Harris has been named the West Virginia Conference men's basketball player of the week, helping guide the No. 1 Hilltoppers to a pair of wins.Harris averaged 20 points, including a career-high 32 in the win over Pitt Johnstown. For the week, he canned 56 percent of his shots from the floor while averaging four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
  • Seton Hill's Katie Gattuso and Davis & Elkins' Jorden Lykes have earned co-WVC honors in women's basketball.
  • Gattuso guided the Griffins to their eighth straight win with her fourth consecutive double-double (21 points, 18 rebounds) against Wheeling Jesuit.Lykes led the Senators to a win over league-leading West Liberty with 15 points and 12 rebounds. It marked her third double-double of the season.

  • WVU SPORTS: West Virginia women's soccer player Bry McCarthy has been selected to play for the Canadian Women's National Team in the Yongchuan Cup Four-Nation Women's Tournament in China.Canada opens play against China on Saturday before a Monday match against Korea Republic. The final game of the tournament is against Norway Jan. 16. Canada comes off a bronze-medal effort at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
  • Two members of the WVU men's soccer team were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team  - sophomore Andy Bevin on the first team (3.9 grade-point average as a pre-business major) and junior Craig Stephens on the second team (3.43 GPA in pre-business).
  • WVU's wrestlers lost to host Lock Haven 19-15 Sunday. Earning victories for the Mountaineers were Jason Luster (157 pounds), Bubba Scheffel (174), Shane Young (125) and Nathan Pennesi (141).
  • The West Virginia ice hockey club team meets Liberty (Va.) on Jan. 18 at 9:30 p.m. and Jan 19 at 5 p.m. at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena. Tickets are $10 and available by calling (304) 744-4423.

  • ATHLETE DAY: West Virginia Wesleyan will hold its annual Bobcat Prospective Athlete Day on Saturday.
    The Office of Admission would like to invite all students interested in playing NCAA Division II varsity athletics to attend the event. It will begin at 9 a.m. with the check-in at the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts and will include presentations, sessions with individual team coaches and a tour of campus.   • MU CLINIC: Registration is now open for Marshall Athletics 16th annual Sweetheart Clinic on Feb. 3.The clinic is open to girls ages 4-12, and participants have the opportunity to learn developmental skills in the nine women's sports offered at MU.
