Area roundup: Mountain East football schedules released

The Mountain East Conference released its league football schedule Friday for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.The league's charter members include Concord, Fairmont State, Glenville State, Notre Dame College (Ohio), Shepherd, Charleston, University of Virginia-Wise, Urbana (Ohio), West Liberty, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan, with all fielding football programs. The conference's twelfth member, Wheeling Jesuit, does not offer a football program.West Virginia State will open its 2013 conference schedule traveling to Concord on Sept. 14 and UC will open Sept. 21 at UVA-Wise.To accommodate 2013 Week 1 non-conference obligations, the Mountain East will play a nine-game schedule in its inaugural year and then begin round-robin play as part of a 10-game league slate in 2014.   • TECH BASKETBALL: A basketball tripleheader will be held in Montgomery today as WVU Tech hosts the Baisi Classic.The games start at 2 p.m. as the Golden Bears' women's team takes on Notre Dame, Ohio, while the men's team will play Ohio Mid-Western College at 4 p.m. At the conclusion of the men's game, the school's annual alumni game will be held featuring former athletes.Admission will be $6 for adults and $4 for children, with tickets available for purchase at the Baisi Center.

  • WVU HOOPS: The West Virginia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will hold a Military and First Responder Appreciation Night at the Mountaineer men's basketball game vs. Texas on Monday. Military members and first responders can purchase a $10 ticket at the Mountaineer Ticket Office or at the Coliseum ticket windows beginning at 7:30 p.m.
