Prep roundup: Herbert Hoover boys knock off Sissonville

Cody Morris contributed 25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots as host Herbert Hoover wore down Sissonville for a 54-36 victory Saturday in boys basketball.

Also for the Huskies (10-5), Aaron Burdette and Joey Forbes each netted 10 points.

The Indians (6-10) were led by 10 points from Trent Stowers. Sissonville trailed 29-20 at halftime.


  • HURRICANE 61, NITRO 37: Trey Dawson poured in 29 points in leading host Hurricane to a convincing win. Rasaan Harris scored 12 points for the Redskins (13-4).

    Tyler Barton had 12 points to lead Nitro (7-9) and Josiah Bosley had 10.

    Nitro's Angelo Sirianni (21.8 points per game) was held scoreless.


  • PRINCETON 74, RIVERSIDE 66: Ryan Meadows hit 15 of 18 foul shots en route to a game-high 26 points as the Tigers picked up a win at home. Hunter Walters tallied 17 points for Princeton and Aaron Ferguson added 16.

    Marcus Reed scored 20 points to lead the Warriors, while Tyus Wood had 14 and Quan Brock 12.

  • WESTSIDE 52, SA 27: The Renegades held St. Albans to single digits in every quarter en route to the win in the consolation game of the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley.

    Danielle Brown scored 14 points and Hope Lester added 12 for Westside, which is No. 1 in Class AA and the defending state champion.

    Breanna Propst tallied 10 points and was the only player in double figures for the AAA Red Dragons (8-9).


  • PARK. CATHOLIC 52, RAVENSWOOD 41: Alex Schaffer scored 13 points as the Crusaderettes rolled on the road. Maddie Rodersheimer scored 12 points for Catholic while Leah Hughes and Reily Sturm scored 10 points apiece.

    Taylor Youell's 12 points led the way for Ravenswood.


  • MORGANTOWN 66, LOGAN 46: Logan's Monica Mitchell posted a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats (10-5) fell to Class AAA No. 3 Morgantown.

    Leah Taylor netted 18 for the Mohigans (15-4) while Caroline Columbo had 12.


  • PARK. SOUTH 68, GW 43: Class AAA No. 10 Parkersburg South jumped out to a 34-13 first-half lead en route to an upset of No. 9 George Washington at the Big Atlantic Classic.

    Tara McCutcheon netted 14 points for South (11-6), while Anna Hayton chipped in 12. Kelli Jo Harrison had 16 points and Alanna Mobayed added 11 for GW (12-5).
