Tech visits Virginia University of Lynchburg today
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The WVU Tech men's basketball team continues its stretch run today when the Golden Bears visit Virginia University of Lynchburg.Tech (15-10) has won six of its last eight games, including a 96-69 victory on Jan. 16 against VUL in Montgomery. In that game, senior guard Terrale Clark led the Golden Bears with 22 points while Floyd Campbell posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Egor Shakhmetov led VUL (11-20) that night with 22 points and nine rebounds.Since that meeting a little more than three weeks ago Tech has been on a tear. The Golden Bears are 4-1 with their only loss coming not quite a week ago against Campbellsville (Ky.) University. During that stretch Tech has averaged 93.6 points while only allowing 76 points per game.
Sophomore guard Jaren Marino has three 20-point games in Tech's last four outings. The former South Charleston Black Eagle had a team-high 27 points in the Golden Bears' win against Southern Virginia and scored 22 and 20 in games against Campbellsville. Senior guard David Rawlinson leads the team in scoring with a per-game average of 21.7, which ranks fifth in the nation among NAIA players.In the Dragons last game, VUL lost 98-95 on a last-second shot against Apprentice School. Shakhmetov again was the big threat for VUL with 25 points and 10 rebounds.Tipoff between the Golden Bears and VUL is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Lynchburg Va.
