CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall coach Doc Holliday is filling the final vacancy on his staff with Kentucky Christian head coach Mike Furrey.MU has not announced the hire, but Grayson-based KCU did on Wednesday, saying, that Furrey "accepted the position of wide receivers coach at Marshall University." The Knights moved quickly to replace Furrey, elevating Gene Peterson to the head position.Furrey played in the NFL from 2003-10 with the Rams, Lions and Browns, even playing safety in addition to his receiving chores. His best offensive season came in 2006, when he caught 98 passes for 1,086 yards with six touchdowns.
He began his coaching career with the KCU post, going 11-11 in two seasons. The Knights of the Mid-South Conference finished in the NAIA top 25 last season, going 7-4.
