Prep roundup: Dillon leads Winfield to 4-1 win over Nitro

Mason Dillon threw a six-hit complete game and went 2 for 3 with an RBI to help lead Winfield to a season-opening 4-1 win against visiting Nitro in high school baseball Friday.Junior catcher Jordan Clark led the Generals offense with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, a triple and two RBIs.For Nitro, last season's Class AAA state runner-up, junior Ryan McDonough went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and a home run and also took the loss on the mound.
  • HUNTINGTON 10, HURRICANE 6: Andrew Zban went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run while Huntington (1-0) took advantage of five Hurricane errors in the Highlanders' road win.
  • For Hurricane (1-1), Tate Brock went 2 for 3 while Alexander Dunham and Connor Adams each had doubles. Huntington's Hunter Smith was the winning pitcher while Hurricane's Riley Metz took the loss.
  • SISSONVILLE 6, POINT PLEASANT 5: Zach Null went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and got the win on the mound as Sissonville defeated visiting Point Pleasant.
  • Jacob Fisher added two RBIs while Ethan Lauchart also chipped in with an RBI for Sissonville (1-1). Alex Summerville went 3 for 4 with a triple and Tyler Campbell went 2 for 3 for Point Pleasant (0-1).
  • RIVERSIDE 7, WOOD-ROW 1: Tyler Hall struck out 11 and went 2 for 4 with a double to lead Riverside (2-0) past visiting Woodrow Wilson (0-1). Anthony Greco took the loss for the Flying Eagles. Hall was the winning pitcher for the Warriors.
  • CLAY 11, WEBSTER 1: Jimmy Brogan smacked a grand slam as the host Panthers improved to 2-0. Ethan Smith and Dalton Holcomb each drove in a pair of runs for Clay, which scored 10 runs in the first inning.

  • SC 10, GW 0: Allie Burdette tossed a six-inning no-hitter 16 strikeouts as South Charleston improved to 2-0. Amanda McDonald, Madison Pauley and Emily Bostic each had two hits as the Black Eagles spoiled George Washington's opener.
  • RIPLEY 1, RIVERSIDE 0: Reese Gandee, Karly Fitzsimmons and Chelsea Hager combined to hold visiting Riverside to just two hits as Ripley (1-0) won its season opener. The Vikings scored the only run of the game in the first inning when Ali Cunningham scored on Riverside's lone error of the game. Sarah Winter took the loss for Riverside (1-1).
  • HURRICANE 11, S. VALLEY 3: Amber Null smacked a home run while Cassi Sargent and Maddie Hebb each went 3 for 4 for Hurricane (2-0) in a five-inning win against visiting Spring Valley (1-1). Alex Milum went 3 for 3 for the Timberwolves.
