Roundup: W.Va. Miners drop opener
The West Virginia Miners dropped their opening game by a score of 100-94 to Rochester on Sunday at St. Albans High School.
Chris Early scored 19 points to lead the Miners, while Brandon Tunnell and Jabril Bailey scored 15 points each. Vince Goldsberry contributed 13 points for West Virginia, with Will Collins adding 12 and Jamal Caterina 10.
Tony Bennett led all scorers with 26 points for Rochester.
MU SPORTS: Andrew Dundon, Gray Stafford, and Aaron Bossi each drove in a pair of runs as the Marshall baseball team rang up a 6-4 win over Central Michigan in Beckley on Sunday.
Bossi homered for the Thundering Herd (8-10) while Michael Taylor picked up the win after five innings of shutout ball while yielding three hits and a walk and striking out seven.
WVU TECH BASEBALL: WVU Tech pounded out 16 hits and rolled to a 14-4 win over Ohio-Chillicothe in East Bank on Sunday. Grant Williams and Jose Soto each had three hits for the Golden Bears (10-14) and Zach Sizemore had two hits with three RBIs.
Prep softball: Melissa Belcher launched walk-off three-run home run to break a 4-all tie as host Nitro notched a 7-4 win over Spring Valley in its season opener. Brooke Jackson went 3-for-4 for the Timberwolves.
