Roundup: W.Va. State, Concord split baseball doubleheader

West Virginia State scored four times in the second inning and pitchers Russell Thompson and Josh Falbo made the lead stand in the Yellow Jackets' 4-2 win against visiting Concord in the first game of a Friday doubleheader.Thompson allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts in five innings to get the win, while Falbo gave up one run on one hit in two innings of work for the save.Zachary Cloxton and Eric Craft each had RBIs for the Yellow Jackets (7-10, 5-3 West Virginia Conference). Garrett Kiser, Anthony Payne, Craft and Cody Smith each scored runs.In the second game, Joey Miller, Jacob Mays and Jerrod Groves each slugged home runs as Concord bounced back with a 7-5 win. Chris Baker earned the win in relief, while Joseph Beane took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Anthony Payne went 2 for 4 with a home run for State.

  • MU BASEBALL: The Marshall baseball team couldn't generate much offense as the Thundering Herd lost a 5-0 decision Friday to Radford at RU Baseball Stadium in Radford, Va.Isaac Ballou, Chase Vogelbach and Aaron Bossi accounted for the Thundering Herd's three hits against the Highlander's Tyler Costello.Marshall (9-11) put a runner on base in each of the first four innings, including the leadoff man in the first and second, but was never able to bring anyone around to score. Radford's Josh Gardiner went 2-for-4 with a run.
