Prep roundup: Nitro's Barton fires no-hitter against Capital
Tyler Barton threw 99 pitches as the Nitro junior no-hit Capital 5-0 in high school baseball Thursday at Capital High School.
Barton struck out five while allowing four walks for the visiting Wildcats (3-2). Eric Keller produced two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Nitro while Ryan McDonough had a double.
Kiefer Hovorka and Andy Hoyer each had three hits for the Fighting Irish (4-1). Kane Roush and Garrett Miller had hits for Wahama (0-1).
Kinker finished 3 for 4 with nine RBIs for the Knights while Eric Wooten, Cody Ballengee and Derik Adkins each had two hits. Jacob Whitlock had a double for George Washington (5-1).
Jordan Clark went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Winfield (4-2) while Bryan Bosley and Jonah Sneeringer laced two hits apiece. Marc Medico doubled twice for East Chester (N.Y.), which plated two runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
Also for Herbert Hoover, Shaun Dotson belted a grand slam and drove in five runs. Fields was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Sean Craze drove in a pair.
Alex Combs and Caleb Frye had one hit apiece for Spring Valley (0-2).
John Riddle added three hits for the Greyhounds (5-1). Drew Moore had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Grizzlies (1-1).
Also for the Indians (4-3), Dominic Walker went 3 for 4 with a double. Isaac Crow had the only two hits for Ravenswood.
Also for Point Pleasant, Bruce McDermott was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Forrest Spurlock led the Skyhawks (1-3) by going 3 for 3 with a homer.
Redskins pitchers Emily Davis and Courtney Rogers combined to hold Capital to two hits (both singles) and one run.
Also for the Panthers (5-2), Megan Tully had a home run.
For the Warriors, Destinae Schmidt went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
Miranda Hall went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs for Roane (3-0) while Cassidy Taylor added two hits and drove home two runs. Victoria Dorsey and Morgan Carmean had the lone hits for the Panthers (0-3).
Kasandra Johnson added two hits for the Skyhawks (4-2) while Allyson Johnson smacked a two-run home run. Hannah Wooten and Talya Berry produced two hits apiece for the Tigers.
Jordan Lewis, Mackenzie Smith, Hali Jarrell and Paige Halstead had one hit each for Sherman (4-1). Cari Blair and Kelly Grimmett had one hit apiece for Man (1-1).
Jacey Parsons was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Wayne. Pioneer pitchers faced the minimum 15 batters over five innings, as Bri Bias of the Dots (who walked in the fifth) was erased on a double play.
For Charleston Catholic, Emma Sovick had a double and a home run.
Alexee Haynes added a home run and two RBIs for the Indians (4-1) while Andrea Harmon contributed two hits. Karissa Cochran and Keci Riffle had two hits apiece for the Big Blacks while McKinly Higginbotham smacked a home run.
