Prep roundup: Nitro's Barton fires no-hitter against Capital

Tyler Barton threw 99 pitches as the Nitro junior no-hit Capital 5-0 in high school baseball Thursday at Capital High School.Barton struck out five while allowing four walks for the visiting Wildcats (3-2). Eric Keller produced two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Nitro while Ryan McDonough had a double.
  • CATHOLIC 12, WAHAMA 2: Connor Golden went 3 for 4 with four RBIs as Charleston Catholic cruised to a six-inning mercy-rule win at Triana Field. 
  • Kiefer Hovorka and Andy Hoyer each had three hits for the Fighting Irish (4-1). Kane Roush and Garrett Miller had hits for Wahama (0-1).
  • CABELL MIDLAND 15, GW 0: Seth Kinker blasted a pair of grand slams as Cabell Midland cruised to five-inning mercy-rule win.
  • Kinker finished 3 for 4 with nine RBIs for the Knights while Eric Wooten, Cody Ballengee and Derik Adkins each had two hits. Jacob Whitlock had a double for George Washington (5-1).
  • WINFIELD 7, EAST CHESTER 6: Derek Whiteside singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the host Generals.
  • Jordan Clark went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Winfield (4-2) while Bryan Bosley and Jonah Sneeringer laced two hits apiece. Marc Medico doubled twice for East Chester (N.Y.), which plated two runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
  • HOOVER 12, CLAY 1: Tristan Fields worked a five-inning three-hitter with seven strikeouts to lift the unbeaten host Huskies (4-0) past the Panthers (3-2).
  • Also for Herbert Hoover, Shaun Dotson belted a grand slam and drove in five runs. Fields was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and Sean Craze drove in a pair.
  • SA 5, SPRING VALLEY 0: Joey Doddrill went 2 for 2 as St. Albans won at home. Clark Bryant contributed a double and two RBIs for the Red Dragons (2-3).
  • Alex Combs and Caleb Frye had one hit apiece for Spring Valley (0-2).
  • VALLEY 9, NICHOLAS 3: Cody Winter struck out 11 in a complete-game effort and Arik McGinnis went 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs as Valley cruised to a home win.
  • John Riddle added three hits for the Greyhounds (5-1). Drew Moore had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Grizzlies (1-1).
  • SISSONVILLE 7, RAVENSWOOD 0: Zach Null threw a two-hitter and went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run to lead Sissonville.
  • Also for the Indians (4-3), Dominic Walker went 3 for 4 with a double. Isaac Crow had the only two hits for Ravenswood.
  • POINT 6, SCOTT 2: Austen Toler went the distance, fanning five and walking none, and also ripped an RBI double for the host Big Blacks (2-4).
  • Also for Point Pleasant, Bruce McDermott was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Forrest Spurlock led the Skyhawks (1-3) by going 3 for 3 with a homer.Softball
  • HURRICANE 15, CAPITAL 1: Addy Fullen went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs while teammate Cassi Sergent was 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBis as Hurricane (7-0) stayed perfect with a three-inning win.
  • Redskins pitchers Emily Davis and Courtney Rogers combined to hold Capital to two hits (both singles) and one run.
  • LINCOLN COUNTY 2, HOOVER 0: Faith Huffman fired a four-hit shutout to help lead visiting Lincoln County past Herbert Hoover (1-1).
  • Also for the Panthers (5-2), Megan Tully had a home run.
  • WINFIELD 5, RIVERSIDE 3: Kenna Markham went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple while teammate Katie Legg had three RBIs to help Winfield (4-3) beat visiting Riverside (5-4).
  • For the Warriors, Destinae Schmidt went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
  • ROANE 10, CLAY 0: Roane County exploded for 10 runs in the top of the first as the Raiders cruised to a three-inning mercy-rule road win.
  •  Miranda Hall went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs for Roane (3-0) while Cassidy Taylor added two hits and drove home two runs. Victoria Dorsey and Morgan Carmean had the lone hits for the Panthers (0-3).
  • SCOTT 10, CHAPMANVILLE 2: Jennifer Miller went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs as Scott won at home.
  • Kasandra Johnson added two hits for the Skyhawks (4-2) while Allyson Johnson smacked a two-run home run. Hannah Wooten and Talya Berry produced two hits apiece for the Tigers.
  • SHERMAN 1, MAN 0: Sherman scored its only run on a wild pitch, but it was enough as the Tide downed the visiting Hillbillies.
  • Jordan Lewis, Mackenzie Smith, Hali Jarrell and Paige Halstead had one hit each for Sherman (4-1). Cari Blair and Kelly Grimmett had one hit apiece for Man (1-1).
  • WAYNE 8, POCA 0: Emily Thompson got the win with four innings of relief, striking out seven, and also belted a solo homer to pace the host Pioneers (4-3).
  • Jacey Parsons was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Wayne. Pioneer pitchers faced the minimum 15 batters over five innings, as Bri Bias of the Dots (who walked in the fifth) was erased on a double play.
  • GW 12, CATHOLIC 4: Rachel Ward went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and teammate Tori Hill had two hits, including a triple, in George Washington's five-inning win, its first of the season.
  • For Charleston Catholic, Emma Sovick had a double and a home run.
  • SISSONVILLE 6, POINT 5: Katelyn Linville went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs as Sissonville secured a home win.
  • Alexee Haynes added a home run and two RBIs for the Indians (4-1) while Andrea Harmon contributed two hits. Karissa Cochran and Keci Riffle had two hits apiece for the Big Blacks while McKinly Higginbotham smacked a home run.Lacrosse
