Buffalo's Rich hands Burcham a rare setback
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Buffalo's Dylan Rich did what few have been able to do in West Virginia the last few years - he beat Cabell Midland's Jacob Burcham in a race.
Rich edged Burcham by less than a second - 1:55.99 to 1:56.87 - in the 800-meter run Thursday at the Carlos Akers & Doc Hale Memorial hosted by Cabell Midland.
Burcham, a two-time winner of the McCoy Award as the top track athlete in West Virginia, is also the two-time defending Class AAA state champion in the 800 and will run in college next season at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to his titles in the 800, the senior also has multiple titles and state meet records in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.
Rich also is an 800-meter state champion, having captured the Class A title in 2012.
