Prep roundup: Poca's Payne shuts out Sissonville

Jake Payne fired a three-hit shutout and struck out eight as host Poca downed Sissonville 10-0 in five innings Monday in high school baseball.Payne also drove in two runs. Cam Cottrill went 4 for 4 for Poca (6-1) while Evan McClanahan rapped out two hits. The Indians fell to 4-5.
  • SHERMAN 10, WESTSIDE 8: John Hunter hit for the cycle, launched a walk-off three-run home run and picked up the win in relief as host Sherman squeezed out a win. Aaron Lowe added three hits and an RBI for the Tide (2-6). Tyler Copy had a three-run home run for Westside.
  • SOUTHERN 4, WAHAMA 3: Southern's Colten Walters drew a bases-loaded walk-off walk in the eighth inning to give host Southern (Ohio) a win. Brandon Moodispaugh drove in a pair of runs for the Tornadoes (3-0). Wyatt Zuspan had a pair of hits, including a double, for Wahama (0-2) and Wesley Harrison went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

  • TIMBERCREEK, N.J. 1, RIVERSIDE 0: Breanna Fisher went 2 for 3 and drove in the only run of the game in the sixth inning as Timbercreek, N.J., held off Riverside at the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Faith Rivera also had two hits for Timbercreek. Cassidy Schmidt was 2 for 3 for Riverside (7-5).
  • CONWAY 3, SHERMAN 1: Conway (S.C.) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back as the Tigers downed Sherman in a five-inning contest at the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach. Jordan Lewis and Kylie Wells had the only hits for the Tide (6-2).
