Tristan Fields fired a four-hit shutout to lead host Herbert Hoover past Poca 10-0 in  five innings in a matchup of Class AA state-ranked teams in high school baseball Wednesday.  Fields struck out five and allowed three singles and a double. Ryan Shamblin (2 for 3) and Scooter Farmer drove in two runs apiece for the Huskies (7-0), No. 3 in the Gazette state rankings, while Shaun Dotson banged out three hits, including a triple, and knocked in a run.Evan McClanahan went 2 for 2 for the No. 7 Dots (6-2) and Jake Payne doubled.
  • HURRICANE 13, WASHINGTON 2: Connor Adams pitched and hit the Redskins past the Patriots in the Mingo Bay Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Adams tossed five no-hit innings and fanned seven, but allowed one earned run. His run-scoring double in Hurricane's five-run third opened up the game as the AAA No. 1 Redskins took a 6-0 lead. Riley Metz went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs for Hurricane (8-1) while Zach Pate rapped out three hits and two RBIs.
  • REAGAN 5, GW 0: Three pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout for Reagan (N.C.)  in the Mingo Bay Classic at Myrtle Beach.
  • Brandon Vogler, Matt Amar and Travis Tuttle held the Patriots to a pair of singles. George Washington hurlers Austin Henrich and Grant Wooten surrendered just two hits, but the AAA No. 10 Patriots committed six errors. Connor Moffatt and Austin Griffith singled for GW (6-2).
  • CATHOLIC 12, BEEKMANTOWN 5: Nelson McKown and Drew Cable each went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs apiece for Class A No. 1 Charleston Catholic (6-1) at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach. Austin Bradish and Brandon Rabidon had two hits and knocked in a run each for Beekmantown (N.Y.)
  • LOGAN 12, KENMORE EAST 2: Zach Minnick went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to pace the Wildcats' offense in a six-inning win at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach.
  • Johnny Morrison fanned eight in four-plus innings for Logan (4-1), allowing two earned runs. Kyle Harvey pounded out two hits for the Wildcats. Kenmore East (N.Y.) fell to 1-1.
  • ATLANTIC SHORES 5, POINT PLEASANT 3: Atlantic Shores (Va.) remained unbeaten with a win over Point Pleasant at the Mingo Classic in Myrtle Beach.
  • Devan Hemmrich got the win in relief and had two hits for Atlantic Shores, which improved to 14-0. Tylun Campbell and Austen Toler had two hits apiece for Point (3-5).
  • WAHAMA 13, HANNAN 3: Wahama erupted for five runs in the fourth as the Class A No. 7 White Falcons cruised to a five-inning home win.
  • Dakota Sisk, Wesley Harrison, Wyatt Zuspan, and Kane Rousch each had two hits for Wahama (1-2). Tyler Jenkins singled for the Wildcats (2-3).
  • HOOVER 8, SCOTT 0: Corey Bird and Austin Thomas combined for 13 strikeouts as the Herbert Hoover duo posted a three-hit shutout over Scott.
  • Thomas also contributed at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a home run, double and three RBIs for the Huskies (8-0) while Cody Bowen, Ryan Shamblin and Bird had two hits each. Cody Blevins and Devin Bayer had hits for the Skyhawks.
  • SISSONVILLE 16, MINGO 4: Sissonville erupted for seven runs in the second inning as the Indians cruised to a road win over Mingo Central.
  • Jacob Fisher and Houston Hill each went 4 for 4 for Sissonville (5-5) while Zach Null and Josh Landis had three hits apiece. Alex Lee went 2 for 3 with a double for the Miners (1-7).
  • RIVERSIDE 6, WINFIELD 3: Cameron Norris gave up three earned runs on eight hits, but fanned 12 for the visiting Warriors.
  • Derik Chestnut went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Riverside (5-3) and Drew Mack legged out two hits. Bear Bellomy rapped out three hits and drove in a run for the Generals and Josh Bumgarner went 2 for 4.
  • NITRO 1, PARKERSBURG 0: Nitro scored its only run on a Parkersburg error in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a home win. Eric Keller and Dylan Slack had the only hits for Nitro (4-2).
  • SC 2, JAMESTOWN 1: South Charleston was outhit 7-1 in the contest, but pulled out the win over visiting Jamestown (N.Y.).
  • Austin Santrock went 1 for 2 for the Black Eagles and Jerod Jobst was the winning pitcher. Jake Sisson had a pair of hits for Jamestown.Softball
  • LINCOLN CO. 9, PARK. SOUTH 0: Faith Huffman tossed a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and doubled twice with three RBIs for Lincoln County.
  • Sarah Pennington rapped out three hits and drove in a run for the No. 2 Panthers (9-2) while Megan Tully went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs. Hannah Wilson had the two hits for Parkersburg South.
  • CATHOLIC DROPS PAIR: Courtney Layhew went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and four RBIs as Hedgesville downed Charleston Catholic 15-5 in four innings in the nightcap of a doubleheader to complete the sweep.
  • Layhew homered and knocked in three runs as the Eagles took the opener 11-1 in four innings. Brianna Ross went 2 for 2 for the Fighting Irish (4-3) in the first game then added a double, home run and four RBIs in the second game for Hedgesville (6-4). 
  • ASHLAND 9, RIVERSIDE 4: Ashland (Ky.) trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh before plating seven runs in the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sara Winter went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, a triple and two RBIs for the Warriors (8-7), who committed four errors.
  • SCOTT 5, MYRTLE BEACH 1: Jennifer Miller surrendered only five singles and whiffed 13 for the Skyhawks in the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach. Cassidy Allen drove in a run for AA No. 6 Scott (5-2) and Ally Brown went 2 for 4.
  • HOOVER 10, POCA 1: Mikayla Craze produced four hits as Herbert Hoover secured a six-inning road win over Poca.
  • Damia Moglelski added three hits, including a double, for the Huskies (4-1) while Allison Rager had two hits to go along with the 11 strikeouts she notched on the mound.
  • POINT 6, WINFIELD 4: Kaitlin Liptrap went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as Point Pleasant earned a home win.
  • Josie Fisher added a pair of hits, including a double, for the Big Blacks. Kenna Markham posted a triple and a single for Winfield (6-5).
  • BUFFALO, HOOVER NO. 1: Buffalo and Herbert Hoover were No. 1 in Class A and AA, respectively, in the West Virginia Sportswriters Association high school softball poll. John Marshall was atop the AAA poll.
  • Hoover received four first-place votes and 82 points in AA to edge No. 2 Ritchie County, which had 78 points. Wayne, the defending AA state champion, was third and garnered one first-place vote, followed Robert C. Byrd and James Monroe.Buffalo, the two-time defending state titlist, received eight of the nine first-place votes for No. 1 in Class A, followed by Moorefield and Wheeling Central, which tied for second, Sherman, which received one first-place vote, and Bishop Donahue.John Marshall garnered all nine first-place votes in AAA and was followed by Lincoln County, Cabell Midland and Musselman and Hurricane (tied for fourth).
