Prep roundup: St. Albans sweeps Clay County

Haili McCown combined to go 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs as St. Albans swept a doubleheder from host Clay County 9-2 and 13-0 Thursday in high school softball.

Mariah Caudill exploded offensively for the Red Dragons (12-0) in the three-inning second game, pounding three hits, including a pair of triples and a double, to go along with six RBIs. The Panthers could only muster four total hits with Allison Coleman and Carli Craddock contributing one apiece.

  • RIVERSIDE 12, JEFFERSONTOWN 2: Alisa Sparks went 3 for 3 with a triple, double and three RBIs as the Warriors cruised to a win over Jeffersontown (Va.) at the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach. Amanda Cooper added a double and RBI for Riverside (9-7). Lexi Beck had a hit for Jeffersontown.
  • RIPLEY 4, POINT PLEASANT 3: Hannah Ford's bunt single with one out scored pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth for the host Vikings.
  • Ripley's Dusti Fisher singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and was sacrificed to third to before scoring on Ford's base hit. Ford finished 2 for 3 with a double for the Vikings (8-2). McKinley Higginbotham rapped out two hits, including a double, for the Big Blacks.

  • SISSONVILLE 5, RIPLEY 2: Katelyn Linville fueled the visiting Indians' offense with a double, triple and three RBIs. Bekah Baldwin fanned eight for Sissonville.
  • HOOVER 8, NICHOLAS 0: Allison Rager gave up three hits and struck out nine for host Herbert Hoover. Mikayla Craze went 3 for 4 with a triple and RBI for the Huskies (4-1), while Zoe Carte and Caroline Thornburg added two hits each. Lauren Young, Mariah Eberhart and Alyson Childers had the lone hits for Nicholas County (5-1).
  • WAYNE 6, HUNTINGTON 0: Jessie Rowe scattered three hits and struck out eight for Wayne. Savannah Perry went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles for the Pioneers (5-3), while Emily Thompson and Payton Fetty each smacked a home run. Rachel Bias had all three hits for Huntington (4-5).
  • VALLEY WINS TWO: Valley earned a pair of wins Thursday as the Greyhounds defeated host Van 13-1 and 8-2.
  • Taylor Carver smacked a three-run double in the first game for Valley (4-0), while Rachel Hagen and Javin Thompson posted a pair of hits each in the second game. Chelsie Calloway went a combined 4 for 5 for the Bulldogs (2-5).

  • HURRICANE 12, WINFIELD 0 Linzie Reynolds went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, a round-tripper and four RBIs for the visiting Redskins in a four-inning win.
  • Courtney Rogers allowed two hits and struck out three for Hurricane (9-1), while Cassi Sargent doubled, homered and knocked in two. Kenna Markham doubled for the Generals (6-6).

  • SCOTT 4, LAWRENCE COUNTY 2: Katie Marcum drove in a run for the Skyhawks in the Grand Strand Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Kellian Strange went 2 for 3 for Scott. Josie Hardin knocked in a run for Lawrence County (Ky.).
  • PENFIELD 8, SCOTT 4: Abby Dennett went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as Penfield (N.Y.) bested Scott in the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach. Kellian Strange and Kaila Craddock had two hits apiece for the Skyhawks.

  • VALLEY 12, LIBERTY 11: John Riddle singled home the winning run as the Greyhounds downed Liberty Raleigh at Epling Field in Beckley.
  • Druw Bowen went 2 for 5 with a double, triple and four RBIs for Valley (7-2) while Arik McGinnis and Cody Winter each had three hits. Dylan Keel posted two hits and drove home three runs for the Patriots (6-1).

  • VALLEY 13, MAN 3: Cody Winter went 4 for 4 with a round-tripper with two doubles and two RBIs for the host Greyhounds. Raeshawn Breckenridge and Druw Bowen added homers for Valley (8-2).
  • Cayce Mullins went 3 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs for the Hillbillies.

  • LINCOLN CO. 7, MINGO 6: Lincoln County scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a home win. Brynnan Fakourey went 3 for 4 for the Panthers (5-1) while Colby Brogan and Aaron Taylor each smacked a home run. Joe May went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs for the Miners.
  • HOOVER 8, SISSONVILLE 1: Matt Justice scattered seven hits and allowed one run as visiting Herbert Hoover downed the Indians. Corey Bird went 2 for 2 with two RBIs for the Huskies (10-0), while and Ryan Shamblin knocked in a pair. Zach Null banged out two hits for Sissonville (5-7).
  • BRIGHTON 10, CLAY 4: Ryan O'Connor belted a pair of hits as visiting Brighton (N.Y.) downed Clay County. Ethan Smith had a double and RBI for the Panthers (5-3).
  • Wednesday's games

  • CONWAY 14, SC 1: Conway (S.C.) plated seven runs in the second as the Tigers sailed to a win over South Charleston in the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Grant Holmes went 2 for 2 with a double and a pair of RBIs for Conway. Jonathan Cline had two hits for the Black Eagles.

  • LINCOLN CO. 12, TUG 6: Colby Brogan went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs as Lincoln County won at home.
  • Tyler Jeffers also added a pair of hits and drove home two runs for Lincoln. Trevin Horn and David Runyon had two hits and an RBI apiece for Tug Valley.
