Prep roundup: Poca edges Bridgeport in nine innings 3-2

Jake Payne and Noah Frampton combined on a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as visiting Poca defeated Bridgeport 3-2 in nine innings Saturday in a battle of Class AA state-ranked baseball teams.Brendan Lezzi scored the winning run for No. 7 Poca (8-4) in the ninth on an outfield error. Cam Cottrill went 2 for 5 with an RBI for the Dots.Tyler Skidmore cracked a two-run homer in the fourth for the No. 2 Indians (6-1).
  • HURRICANE 3, HORSEHEADS 2: Alexander Dunham hit a two-run single in the seventh to put Hurricane on top for good in the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Trey Dawson went 2 for 3 for the Redskins (10-2) while Zach Pate added a pair of hits. Dillon Manwaring posted two hits including a home run for Horseshead (N.Y.).
  • WINFIELD SWEEPS: Freshman Casey Frye earned the victory in the opener and the save in the second game as host Winfield boarded an 11-6, 6-4 doubleheader sweep of Preston.
  • Bear Bellomy went 2 for 3 and Tanner Bailey drove in two runs for the Generals in the first game and Brandon Wright tripled in the nightcap. For the Knights, Kyle Cool was 5 for 6 with a double in the two games.
  • SC 7, LIVONA 1: Jonathan Pauley went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Austin Santrock allowed just three hits in a complete game in South Charleston's win against Livona (N.Y.) at the Mingo Bay Classic in South Carolina.
  • Jonathan Cline went 2 for 4 with two runs scored while Jacob Marler had two hits, an RBI and scored a run for the Black Eagles.
  • GW 2, PLATTSBURGH 0: Starting pitcher Grant Wooten threw a shutout while Connor Moffat drove in two runs in the third inning to lead George Washington (8-3) past Plattsburgh (N.Y.) at the Mingo Bay Classic at Socastee High School in South Carolina.
  • Clayton Anderson added two hits and a double in the win for the Patriots, while Rob Knowles went 2 for 3 for Plattsburgh.
  • NITRO 6, OAK HILL 1: Ryan McDonough allowed one run and struck out eight in six innings as the Wildcats turned back visiting Oak Hill.
  • McDonough went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Dylan Slack smacked a double for Nitro (6-2). For the Red Devils, Ray Epperty drove in a run.
  • ST. ALBANS 8, CANFIELD 7: St. Albans scored six runs in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings, where Phoenix Shrewsbury scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to lift the Red Dragons to the win against Canfield (Ohio) at the Mingo Bay Classic in South Carolina.
  • Dustin Turley went 2 of 5 with two RBIs and Austin Harless had two hits (including a double) and three RBIs for St. Albans (7-3).
  • LINCOLN COUNTY 21, TOLSIA 0: Colby Brogan tossed a five-inning no-hitter and fanned 11 for the host Panthers (6-1).
  • Also for LC, Blayke Cyfers was 5 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, Brogan went 3 for 4 with a double and drove in four and Grant Bates (2 for 3) doubled, homered and collected five RBIs.
  • POINT 16, LORIS 8: Alex Somerville lofted a pair of homers and drove in three runs as Point Pleasant ended its stay in Myrtle Beach with a win over Loris, S.C. (9-4).
  • Evan Potter (3 for 4) led a 14-hit attack for the Big Blacks (5-6), who went 2-2 during their southern swing. Colin Causey went 2 for 2 with three RBIs for Loris.
  • PHELPS 24, TUG VALLEY 12: Zack Avina went 3 for 4 with five RBIs as visiting Phelps (Ky.) doubled up Tug Valley.
  • Tate Compton and Bailey Hurley had three hits each for Phelps. Phillip Lucas went 2 for 4 for the Panthers and Jordon Mounts had three RBIs.

  • TUG VALLEY 13, HANNAN 8: Tug Valley exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning as the Pathers downed host Hannan.
  • Jordon Mounts went 4 for 5 with a pair of RBI for Tug Valley while Phillip Lucas and David Runyon had two hits apiece. Jared Lunsford went 4 for 5 with an RBI for the Wildcats.Softball
  • SA 4, SC 2: Mariah Caudill went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for host St. Albans. Ali Haynes pounded out two hits, including a double, and fanned five for the Red Dragons (13-1).
  • Alli Burdette struck out 13 and went 2 for 3 with a home run for South Charleston and Kayly Stanley tripled.
  • HURRICANE 9, SISSONVILLE 0: Courtney Rogers threw a one-hit shutout as Hurricane downed Sissonville in the Corey "Bird" Price First Responders Lady Tigers Invitational.
  • Madison Casto went 4 for 4 for the Redskins (11-1) while Rogers added three hits including a double, home run and three RBIs. Karli Pinkerton had the lone hit for Sissonville.
  • HOOVER 3, HURRICANE 1: McKenzie  Edmonds went 3 for 4 with four RBIs as Herbert Hoover picked up a win in the Corey "Bird" Price First Responders Lady Tigers Invitational.
  • Allison Rager and Amber Oaks contributed two hits each for the Huskies. Addie Fullen had the only extra-base hit for the Redskins (11-2).
  • WAYNE 11, SPRING VALLEY 1: Jessie Rowe (5-2) allowed two hits and one unearned run for the visiting Pioneers (6-3). Also for Wayne, Payton Fetty and Rowe slapped a pair of hits each and Rowe drove in three runs.
  • JAMES MONROE 1, CHAPMANVILLE 0: Mikayla Wickline allowed one hit and struck out 13 as James Monroe shut out host Chapmanville.
  • Bailee Jackson went 2 for 4 for the Mavericks. Tayla Berry's double was the lone hit for the Tigers.
  • JAMES MONROE 5, POINT 3: Megan Bailey went 2 for 4 with a double as James Monroe downed host Point Pleasant. Karissa Cochran belted a double for the Big Blacks.
  • ROANE WINS TWO: Cassidy Taylor went a combined 6 for 9 with four RBIs as Roane County picked up a doubleheader road sweep over South Harrison, winning 9-1 and 11-0.
  • Miranda Hall added two hits and drove home three runs in game one for the Raiders (10-0) while Muriah Nutter had two hits in game two. Laura McDonald, Jordan Martin and Jaclyn Folmsba had hits for South Harrison (3-7).
  • IRISH SWEEP: Darian Vines and Brianna Ross each went 3 for 4 to spark a 14-hit attack as Charleston Catholic earned a 15-7 six-inning win over Parkersburg Catholic in the opening game of a doubleheader at Little Creek Park.
  • In the nightcap, the Irish (6-3) got three hits from Talia Corbett during a 16-3 victory in three innings.
  • VALLEY SWEEPS: Taylor Carver had two hits in game one and Kelsey Bird had a single, double and two RBIs in game two as Valley picked up two wins over host Summers County, 10-1 and 16-4.
  • Brittany Domingo, Kailey Cooper and Brianna Canterbury all had two hits in game two for the Greyhounds (6-0). Rachel Harper, Kendall Wiley and Rochelle Yepp had hits for the Bobcats (4-5).
  • LINCOLN COUNTY 3, CHAPMANVILLE 0: Brooke West threw a one hitter and drove in two runs with a double as the visiting Panthers earned a win. Morgan Hutchinson had three hits for the Panthers (10-5) while Amy Parsons went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
