Justin Montemayor launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning that started an offensive outburst as Houston pulled away with a 9-1 win over Marshall in the series finale at Appalachian Power Park Sunday afternoon.The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Thundering Herd.It marked the first Conference USA series win for Marshall since 2011."I'm proud of the guys, the way they responded this weekend," Marshall coach Jeff Waggoner said. "We faced adversity on Friday and came back. I was proud of our pitching performance and the way we played defense [Saturday], but today was a letdown. We weren't able to pitch as well. We didn't have the same at-bats with runners in scoring position.Gray Stafford drove in Marshall's only run on a base hit in the fifth inning. Isaac Ballou singled to stretch his streak of reaching base to 23 games.The Herd will play at Ohio State at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday and will travel to Southern Miss for a three-game set this weekend."We just have to get ready," Waggoner said. "We've got Ohio State on Wednesday and then we're on the road again at Southern Miss, which is a very tough place to play and they're playing well. We need to give [the players] a couple of days off and go back to good preparation and get those guys ready for a tough week."

WVU SPORTS: Baylor scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning as the Bears pounded West Virginia 11-1 in a baseball game in Waco, Texas, on Sunday.Ryan McBroom had two of West Virginia's five hits, including a solo home run, his team-best seventh of the season.The Mountaineers will travel to Ohio State for a 6:35 p.m. game on Tuesday.
The West Virginia gymnastics team ended its season by finishing fifth in the NCAA Morgantown Regional Championships Saturday at the Coliseum.

MU, WVU TRACK: Marshall had first place finishes in 11 of 19 events and won the Ohio Team Challenge on Saturday in Athens.The Thundering Herd had 153 points, besting second-place Ohio by 46 and third-place West Virginia by 81.
