Brett Nelson named Ball State associate coach

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- New Ball State coach James Whitford has hired former St. Albans star Brett Nelson as associate head coach.Nelson is the first assistant Whitford has hired since taking the job two weeks ago.
Nelson spent the last two seasons at Drake after coaching three seasons at Marshall and one at Arkansas, all as an assistant. He also served as director of basketball operations for one season each at Colorado State and VCU.Nelson, the 1999 West Virginia high school player of the year, was the star of Florida's national runner-up team in 2000.
