Prep roundup: South Charleston comeback bid falls short against GW
South Charleston scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as George Washington edged the host Black Eagles 13-12 in high school baseball Thursday night.John Thomas went 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for the Patriots while Austin Griffith and Tanner Sorrells each posted a pair of hits. Austin Santrock went 3 for 3 including a double and a triple and drove home four runs for South Charleston and Jonathan Cline had three hits with a double and three RBIs.
SOUTH 8, SA 7: Jacob Wilcox hit a walk-off RBI single to lead Parkersburg South to a home win over St. Albans.
Brandon Johnson went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for the Patriots, while Clay Walters contributed three hits and drove home a run. Dustin Turley and Andrew Mathews had two hits apiece for the Red Dragons.
CATHOLIC 11, BUFFALO 6: Charleston Catholic scored five runs in the sixth inning to earn a road victory over Buffalo. Kiefer Hovorka went 3 for 5 with two doubles for the Fighting Irish (14-8) while Rocco Wilcox and Nelson McKown added two hits each. Laythen Good and Nick Gunter both went 2 for 3 for the Bison (6-10).
HURRICANE 7, HUNTINGTON 1:<P> Alexander Dunham went 2 for 2 with a double and drove in two runs and Connor Adams fired a six-hitter to lead visiting Hurricane to victory.Austin Hensley doubled in a run for the Redskins (19-3), the No. 1 team in the Gazette's Class AAA ratings. The Highlanders (16-8) hit into three double plays.
SOUTHERN 4, WAHAMA 0: Danny Ramthum threw a one-hitter while striking out 12 as Southern (Ohio) blanked host Wahama. Ramthum also went 2 for 3 with a triple for Southern (13-2) while Colton Walters produced two hits. Kane Roush had the lone hit for the White Falcons (11-6).
POCA 14, WINFIELD 6: Matt Chandler went 3 for 4 including a pair of home runs and four RBIs as Poca cruised to a home victory. Brett Watts contributed three hits and drove home four runs for the Dots (17-6) and Cam Cottrill posted three hits. Jordan Clark had a home run and three RBIs for the Generals while Josh Bumgarner and Derek Whiteside had two hits apiece.
HOOVER 6, SCOTT 3: A Scott error allowed two Herbert Hoover runs to score as part of a four-run top of the seventh as the Huskies earned a comeback win. Hunter White had a pair of hits and RBIs to lead Hoover (20-1) and Tristan Fields also drove in a pair of runs. Forrest Spurlock went 2 for 3 with a two-run homer for the Skyhawks.
VALLEY 7, SHERMAN 4: Arik McGinnis had a pair of hits with a home run and two RBIs and Druw Bowen struck out 12 in a complete-game effort as Valley earned a home win. Hunter Adkins added two hits and an RBI for the Greyhounds (17-5). John Hunter went 2 for 4 with a solo home run for the Tide.
BELFRY 6, LOGAN 0: Keaton Taylor scattered two hits and struck out one as Belfry (Ky.) blanked visiting Logan. Zack Francisco went 3 for 4 with a double for Belfry. Trent Dalton and Brenton Vance had the lone hits for the Wildcats (14-6).
WAYNE 8, MIDLAND 5; Kasey Endicott went 2 for 3 with a homer and drove in three runs for the host Pioneers (21-5). For Cabell Midland (24-5), Jenny Brumfield and Morgan Zerkle had two hits each.
POINT 9, SISSONVILLE 5: Makinley Higginbotham went 3 for 4 as Point Pleasant rolled to a home win over Sissonville. Kaci Riffle added two hits for the Big Blacks while Megan Davis blasted a home run. Katelyn Linville had three hits for the Indians and Alexee Haynes had two hits with a double and an RBI.
ST. ALBANS 8, RIVERSIDE 0: Madi Marshall went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs as St. Albans earned a six-inning mercy-rule win. Mariah Caudill added three hits with a double and drove in three runs. Felicia Burton had a pair of hits to lead the Warriors.
