Freshman Austin Henrich hit a home run for his first varsity baseball hit as George Washington defeated visiting Ripley 15-5 in six innings Saturday at Floyd B. Wilcox Field.Tanner Sorrells also hit a home run and a single for the Patriots (17-9) and Connor Moffatt led GW's 15-hit attack by going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs.Garrett Vogelbach, Clayton Anderson, Grant Wooten and John Thomas also had multiple-hit games for the Patriots, who invoked the 10-run mercy rule after scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.Chris Jordan went 2 for 3 for Ripley (6-17).POCA WINS THREE: Poca picked up three wins at home, rallying past Scott 12-8 in the continuation of a previously suspended game at Madison, then beating Scott again 12-2 and Chapmanville 4-2.
In the opener, Evan McClanahan belted a two-run homer in the top of the seventh as the Dots (20-6) scored six times to regain the lead. Matt Chandler also homered and drove in a pair and Forrest Spurlock smacked two doubles and drove in three for Scott. In the next game, Noah Frampton (3 for 4) doubled and drove in two runs and Jake Payne, McClanahan and David Taylor all had two hits for Poca.Chandler slapped a two-run single in the sixth of the final game as the Dots scored three times in that inning to wipe out a 2-1 lead for the Tigers (17-6). Hoyer struck out 12 in a complete-game performance in the opener. Also for the Class A No. 6 Irish, Connor Golden had a double and triple while driving in two runs and Rocco Wilcox drove in two runs with a double with two outs and the score tied 2-2. The Renegades scored seven runs in the first two innings of the opener in a 9-2 win over the Panthers.Breyer Morgan went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI for Westside in the first game. Ethan Hager doubled in two runs for Tug.
In the second game, DaKota Bailey, Tyler Copley and Trevor Anderson knocked in two runs apiece for the Renegades. SoftballBUFFALO SWEEPS: Chelsey Parkins fired a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as host Buffalo downed Nitro 7-1 in the nightcap to gain a sweep of a doubleheader.
In the first game, Ali Burdette gave up three hits while striking out nine to get the win as Buffalo (25-4) prevailed 5-1. She also doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs, and Whitney Dingess rapped out three hits with two RBIs for Buffalo.
