Prep roundup: Huntington takes MSAC baseball consolation game over SV

Ronnie Musick, Joey Mundy and Hunter Smith each had three hits as No. 2 seed Huntington defeated Spring Valley 16-14 in the Mountain State Athletic Conference baseball consolation game Tuesday at Hurricane.Elijah Wellman went 3 for 5 with a grand slam and Colby Webb had four hits for the Timberwolves. Huntington improved to 20-9.
  • SA 12, CLAY 0: Dustin Turley went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs as host St. Albans earned a five-inning mercy-rule win. Andrew Mathews had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Red Dragons (18-9) while Austin Harless yielded just three hits in a complete-game effort.
  • BUFFALO 25, ST. JOSEPH 2: Garrison Erwin had two hits with a triple and three RBIs as host Buffalo earned a win in five innings. Dakota Briscoe drove in a pair of runs and doubled for the Bison (8-11) and Levi Jordan struck out seven in a two-hitter.
  • CHAPMANVILLE 3, SISSONVILLE 1: Brock Dalton went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs as Chapmanville earned a road win. Brent Clay added two hits for the Tigers (9-20). Dominick Walker had two hits for the Indians.
  • TUG VALLEY 13, CROSS LANES 11: Jordan Mounts went 3 for 5 as visiting Tug Valley downed Cross Lanes Christian. Tyler Lucas and Trevin Horn had two hits each for Tug Valley. Chad Williams, Ethan Stepp and Lee McQuain produced two hits apiece for Cross Lanes (8-10).
  • POCA 6, POINT PLEASANT 5: Marshall Lucas hit three doubles to lead Poca past visiting Point Pleasant. Point Pleasant's Austin Toler fanned 13 batters in a losing effort.
  • RIPLEY 16, POCA 8: Chris Jordan's three RBIs and Easton Berry's six strikeouts led Ripley past Poca (20-7). Cameron Cottrill went 4-5 with two RBIs for Poca.

Also for Capital (13-15), Austin Hupp went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Anthony Gavin socked a solo homer. For the Big Reds (10-11), Kyle Foster was 3 for 3 with a double.

  • HURRICANE 9, LINCOLN COUNTY 2: Madison Casto and Linzie Reynolds produced three hits apiece as host Hurricane downed Lincoln County in a Class AAA Region 4 Section 3 matchup. Cassi Sargent and Emily Davis added two hits each for the Redskins (27-5). Sarah Barrett and Megan Tully contributed two hits apiece for the Panthers. The teams will meet again at 6 tonight at Hurricane.
  • HOOVER SWEEPS SECTION: Allison Rager went a combined 7 for 9 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs as Herbert Hoover downed Nicholas County 8-0 and 16-2 to claim the Class AA Region 4 Section 1 title. McKenzie Edmonds contributed five hits for the Huskies (23-3). Whitney Robinson went 4 for 6 for Nicholas County. Herbert Hoover will host Sissonville on May 9.
  • SHERMAN 13, VALLEY 0: Mackenzie Smith had three hits with a home run and three RBIs as host Sherman locked down a win in Class A Region 3 Section 3. Tori May also had three hits with an RBI for the Tide (23-7).
  • Valley will face Van in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. today at Sherman with the winner playing the Tide 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
  • SCOTT 1, CHAPMANVILLE 0: Ally Brown allowed just four hits as Scott shut out visiting Champanville in a Class AA Region 4 Section 3 contest. Brown and Kellian Strange both went 1 for 3 for the Skyhawks (18-8). Lauren Easterling and Brandi Broom each had a hit for the Tigers (15-16). The teams will square off again tonight at 5:30 at Scott High School.
  • VALLEY 7, VAN 6: Taylor Carver drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with two outs to propel the Greyhounds past the Bulldogs in Class A Region 3 Section 3 at Sherman High School. Carver finished 2 for 4 while Javin Thompson and Emily Smallman also had a pair of hits for Valley. Chelsie Calloway singled in a run for Van.

  • WAYNE 10, MINGO 0: Jessie Rowe scattered two hits as host Wayne earned a Class AA Region 4 Section 4 single-elimination win over Mingo Central. Emily Thompson and Tasha Maynard had two hits apiece for the Pioneers (24-6) while Kasey Endicott belted a home run. Wayne will play the Class AA Region 4 Section 4 champion May 9 in the regional semifinals.
