Roundup: Power rained out, will play twin bill today vs. Greenville
The West Virginia Power's game against the Greenville Drive, scheduled for Monday evening at Appalachian Power Park was postponed due to rain.
The teams will play the game as part of a doubleheader today beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be seven innings.
The Power (13-16) won Sunday's opener of the four-game set 6-3. The teams will conclude the series at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday before West Virginia embarks on a seven-game road trip beginning with four games in Lexington, Ky.
WVU SPORTS: West Virginia track and field athlete Stormy Nesbit has been named the WVU Varsity Sports Report athlete of the week for her performance at the Big 12 outdoor track and field championships last weekend. Nesbit earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.51 meters and a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.93 meters.
The West Virginia track and field team scored 33 of its 40 points on the final day of competition to take eighth place at the Big 12 meet in Waco, Texas, over the weekend. No. 2 Kansas won the meet with 158 points and swept both the indoor and outdoor titles this season. No. 10 Texas placed second with 145 points, No. 21 Baylor finished third with 93 points and No. 16 Iowa State and No. 23 Oklahoma rounded out the top five with 89 and 78.50 points, respectively.
SENIOR GOLF: Huntington's Steve Fox won low round of the day with a 1-over-par 73 in Monday's West Virginia Senior Series at Williams Country Club in Weirton. Taking first place in the Silver Division was Ellenboro's Roy Hammond, who shot a 76, while Yawkey's Kenny Mitchell won the Gold Division with an 80.
