St. Albans' Greg Garber and University's Barb Solly were named the coaches for the North-South All-Star Classic softball game.Garber will lead the South Cardinals while Solly will guide the North Bears. The North-South games are scheduled for June 13 at Buffalo for senior players who graduate in 2013. The teams will play two seven-inning games and one five-inning game beginning at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.The home run derby, fastest arm (overhand and underhand throws), 20- and 60-yard sprints, accuracy throw and bunting contests will begin at 10:30 a.m.nn
HERD SOFTBALL: Marshall's Alysia Hively and Andi Williamson have been selected to the Conference USA softball all-academic team.
Hively earned a 3.89 grade-point average and will graduate with degrees in exercise physiology and psychology. Williamson produced a 3.69 grade-point average while earning physical education and health education degrees.nn
AREA GOLF: Huntington's Steve Fox ousted Spencer's Rick Moore by four stokes, shooting a 75, to take the low round of the day award in the West Virginia Senior Series at Highland Springs Golf Course in Wellsburg.
2012 Senior player of the year Gregory Mason won in a card-off against Follansbee's Michael Potts in the Silver Division with a 79, while Charleston's Allen Bailes topped the Gold Division with a 76.nn
LOCAL TENNIS: The Charleston Area Tennis Association will sponsor its annual Junior Qualifier tournament May 17- 20 at the Charleston Tennis Club.
