Marshall gets commitment from Georgia prep QB
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall has landed a quarterback to its growing summertime football recruiting haul, landing a commitment from Cole Garvin of Tyrone, Ga.
Garvin, listed as a 6-foot-1, 195-pound pocket passer, announced his choice Friday night via Twitter. Reports say he plans to graduate in December and enroll at Marshall in January.
Listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals, he is a hot commodity among Conference USA schools. ESPN lists eight current and future C-USA schools as making offers, along with Memphis and a few Sun Belt schools.
Garvin completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 2,491 yards and 20 touchdowns for Sandy Creek High, which went 15-0 and won Georgia's Class 4A championship. He was listed among the top 10 quarterbacks of that state, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said of him: "He'd probably be an ACC/SEC recruit if he were taller than 6-foot-1."
Other reported commitments to MU include Hyleck Foster, a 5-10 "athlete" from Gaffney, S.C.; 6-3, 305-pound lineman (either side) from La Belle, Fla.; and Reese Wooten, a 6-2, 170-pound wide receiver from Cairo, Ga.
