South Charleston's Christian Brand and six-time West Virginia Open Champion David Bradshaw both shot a 6-under-par 66 to share the individual low round of the day Monday at the West Virginia Open Pro-Am at the Parkersburg Country Club in Vienna.Alan Cooke, Kenny Hess and Jason Robinson each shot a 68.The Galaxy Distributing team, led by Robinson, had a low-gross score of 19 under par (53) to win the West Virginia Open Pro-Am Scramble team title. Members of the team also included Ian Patrick, Aaron Boggs, Rick McCormick and Michael Foust.Taking home top prize in the net division was the Huntington Bank team, led by Hurricane's Brandon Tinney. The team shot a low-net score of a 21-under-par 51.nn
Mason Williams of Bridgeport shot the low round of the day with a 70 at the Marietta (Ohio) Country Club, taking home the title in the 13-14 age division of the Callaway Junior Tour. Kaitlyn Bliss of Bridgeport, Ohio, won the girls low round of the day along with the title in the 15-18 age division, shooting an 87. Whitney Milhoan of Vienna won the 10-14 girls age division, shooting an 88.Alston Spears of Spencer took home the title in the 17-18 age division with a 78, while Alex Hamrick of Red House took home top honors in the 15-16 age division, winning in a four-way playoff. Carson Okraska of Parkersburg took home another title in the 12-and-under division (84).nn
WVU AWARDS: Eight West Virginia student-athletes earned a spot Monday on the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large team.Graduate Petra Zublasing, rising seniors Chance Cover and Daniel Sojka and rising juniors Meelis Kiisk, Thomas Kyanko and Maren Prediger were recognized from the rifle team, while rising senior Craig Stephens and rising junior Andy Bevin represented the men's soccer team.To qualify, athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average or higher, either cumulative or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's contests.nn
