CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Capital High and Marshall graduate Christian Brand was one of the top finishers at the Greenbrier Classic pre-qualifier, held Thursday at the Cobb Course at Glade Springs.Brand shot a 4-under-par 68, finishing in a six-way tie for fourth among the 111 golfers chasing the dream of playing in next week's PGA Tour event. Fifty-one golfers advanced to the rugged Monday qualifier, which also takes place at the Cobb Course.The cut was at 2-over 74. Among those making it were Concord assistant golf coach Darcy Donaldson (69), seven-time West Virginia Open winner David Bradshaw (70), Vienna junior Alan Cooke (73) and Parkersburg's Kenneth Hess (both 73) and Fairmont State grad Justin Caroli (74).Sleepy Hollow pro Jonathan Clark won one of the Tri-State Section PGA's two free passes to Monday qualifying.
While nearly half the field advanced in pre-qualifying, the stakes get brutally tougher Monday. Only four players advance to the Greenbrier Classic, and Thursday's survivors will be joined by past and present PGA Tour pros, along with Web.com Tour and Champions Tour members.
