Barrett Barnes ripped an RBI-double to score Ashley Ponce, capping off a three-run rally in the ninth inning as the West Virginia Power salvaged a 5-4 win at Lakewood on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 5,589 was on hand as the Power won its second game in a row.Eric Wood, Max Moroff, and Raul Fortunato each walked to lead off the inning with Wood scoring on a Kawika Emsley-Pai sacrifice fly to cut the team's deficit to 4-3. Moroff scored on a Ponce groundout to tie it, setting up Barnes' heroics.Fortunato led the way, going 3 for 3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs while Moroff had a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs.Kyle Haynes (1-1) picked up the win after throwing a pair of innings in relief, giving up a run on three hits.Delvi Francisco (2-4) was hit with the loss for Lakewood, giving up three runs (two earned) in two innings and walking four.The Power (9-2) will travel to Hagerstown, Md., to begin a three game set at 7:05 tonight.
nnYOUTH SOCCER: All 16 teams from the West Virginia Soccer Association were eliminated as play concluded during the third day of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships in Kingston, R.I. on Sunday.The teams went a combined 8-37-3 over the three days, with the under-15 West Virginia Chaos girls team picking up a pair of wins and placing second in its bracket.
