Ritchie County rising senior Sydney Snodgrass fired an even-par 72 to grab a two-stroke lead on the first day of the West Virginia Women's Amateur Championship Tuesday at the Resort at Glade Springs.The event is being held on the resort's Stonehaven Course.Elizabeth's Adeena Shears shot a 74, good enough for sole possession of second place, while five players are tied for third at 75, including defending champion Brooke Bellomy. The former Cabell Midland standout and current Campbell University golfer won the event by eight strokes last year at Berry Hills Country Club. Snodgrass is a two-time Class AA all-state golfer and is undecided on where she will play in college.
The field will begin play at 8 a.m. today with the leaders getting underway at 9:58.The field will be divided into flights for the final round on Thursday.(For results and today's pairings, see Page 2B.)nn
WVU RADIO: Four additional station affiliates have joined the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. The latest stations signing on are WELD-FM in Fisher, WVOW-AM/WVOW-FM in Logan, WKQR-FM in Mullens, and WETZ-AM/WYMJ-FM in New Martinsville.The stations will each air football and men's basketball along with their respective coaches' shows and a daily "Mountaineer Minute" report. The new Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG now has nine affiliate stations that will provide coverage of WVU sports.nn

WV DERBY: A field of nine horses, including Kentucky Derby entrant Overanalyze, has drawn in for Saturday's 44th running of the Grade 2 $750,000 West Virginia Derby.
