The Civic Center Volleyball Showcase begins in earnest today with high school matches running through Thursday. The event got underway Monday with middle school matches.Kanawha Valley schools participating include Riverside, Buffalo, Herbert Hoover, Capital, Charleston Catholic, South Charleston, Sissonville, George Washington, Winfield, Nitro and St. Albans. GW is the defending state champion in Class AAA.Other top teams include Williamstown, the Class A defending state champion, Ritchie County, last year's state runner-up in AA, and Tyler Consolidated, the state runner-up in Class A last season.Buffalo and Riverside compete today while Herbert Hoover, Capital, Charleston Catholic and South Charleston play Wednesday. On Thursday, Sissonville, GW, Winfield, Nitro and St. Albans take the floor.
