The West Virginia Golf Association will host a weekend-long Centennial Celebration Nov. 1-2 at Stonewall Resort. GIRLS SOCCER: Laine Roberts netted two goals to help Nitro record a 4-3 win over visiting St. Albans Wednesday. Autumn Griggs scored the game-winning goal with 13 minutes left to break a 3-all tie. GLENVILLE COACH RESIGNS: Glenville State women's basketball coach Bunky Harkleroad has resigned a month before the start of the regular season to accept a similar job at Sacramento State.Harkleroad replaces Jamie Craighead, who left Sacramento State after four seasons to take over the head coaching position at San Jose State.
Harkleroad went 91-31 in four seasons at Division II Glenville State, including a 27-4 record last season in which he was named the West Virginia Conference coach of the year.nn
WVU SPORTS: The West Virginia women's basketball team was picked to finish in a tie for third this season in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll, voted on by the league's coaches.Oklahoma was the preseason favorite for the fourth time in conference history. OU tallied five first-place votes for a total of 74 points. Baylor received three first-place nods and 70 points. MU SPORTS: Marshall University golfer Brian Anania has been named the Conference USA's Golfer of the Week. He won the Bearcat Invitational title Tuesday at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky. He is the second member of the Herd to win the honor this season, joining freshman Clark Robinson.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Fairmont State's Hailey Garrett was named to the 2013-14 Division II Bulletin All-America team as an honorable mention. Garrett was named first-team All-WVC last season.
