Soccer roundup: Hurricane, Winfield advance in boys sectional

Loran Meadows scored three goals as Class AAA No. 14 Hurricane downed No. 18 St. Albans  7-3 n a Region 4 Section 1 boys matchup Wednesday night.Guillermo Ugarte and Alex Kayuha added two goals apiece for Hurricane (12-6-3). For St. Albans, Jack Wiles had two goals and Nathan Harvey added one.Hurricane will face Winfield for the sectional title at 3 p.m. Saturday at Winfield.
  • WINFIELD 4, NITRO 0: Steven Taylor scored two goals to lead the Class AAA No. 17 host Generals to a win over the Wildcats in a Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 match.
  • Jesse Richmond and Nathan Keefe each added a goal for Winfield (9-9-3) and goalie Bryce Boggs collected four saves in the shutout.
  • SISSONVILLE 7, SCOTT 0: Dougie Harding tallied four goals as the Class AA-A No. 6 Indians defeated the No. 17 Skyhawks in a Region 4 Section 2 clash.
  • Caleb Calhoun, Josh Rawson and Dylan Asbury each added a goal for Sissonville, while goalkeeper J.R. Strickland collected 11 saves in the shutout.
  • CATHOLIC 5, ST. JOSEPH 0: Joey Trupo netted four goals to lead Class AA-A No. 1 Charleston Catholic to a victory over No. 18 St. Joseph in the Class AA-A Region 4 Section 2 game at Scott High School.
  • Thad Jamison also scored for the Fighting Irish (13-3-3). Catholic will face Sissonville in the sectional finals at 7 p.m. today at Scott High School.  Girls sectionals
  •   CATHOLIC 6, ST. JOSEPH 0: Peyton Keener scored two goals as Class AA-A No. 2 Charleston Catholic defeated St. Joseph (9-11-1) in the Class AA-A Region 4 Section 2 final at Poca High School.
  • Payton Mullen, Quincy McCown, Caroline Dundervill and Jada Bohn added a goal apiece, with Dundervill collecting three assists for Catholic (19-1-2). Tuesday's girls game
  • ST. ALBANS 5, POINT PLEASANT 0: Five different players scored goals as host St. Albans downed Point Pleasant 5-0 Tuesday in Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 girls play.
  • The Red Dragons (8-10-2) will play at Winfield (18-1-1), which finished the regular season No. 1 in Class AAA, at 7 p.m. today in the sectional semifinals.
    Madison Cogar, Audrey Goode and Madi Marshall each netted goals to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 lead at halftime. Alli Johnson and Hannah Myers tacked on one each in the second half for SA.
