Prep roundup: South Charleston boys defeat Woodward 56-49

South Charleston jumped out to 21-4 first-quarter lead and held on to beat Cincinnati Woodward 56-49 in the Chick-fil-A Tournament at the South Charleston Community Center.A.D. Cunningham and Anthony Billings each scored 14 to lead the Black Eagles (4-0) and Brandon Knapper tallied 12 points. Isaiah Jones scored a game-high 25 for Woodward.
  • POINT PLEASANT 49, ST. CLAIRSVILLE 44: Nick Templeton sank 17 points to lead Point Pleasant past St. Clairsville, Ohio, in the Chick-fil-A Tournament at the South Charleston Community Center. Alex Somerville chipped in nine points for the Black Knights. Brandon Ferns recorded 17 points to lead St. Clairsville and Daniel Terouten scored 11.
  • CATHOLIC 71, HOOVER 50: Garrett McCarty netted 23 points as Charleston Catholic won at home. Nick George added 19 points for the Irish (4-1). Herbert Hoover was paced by Matt Jones with 20 points and Noah Toops with 14.
  • HURRICANE 64, WINFIELD 62: Hurricane made 1 of 2 free throws with 5 seconds left and came up with a defensive stop on the final possession as the Redskins went on the road to beat Winfield.
  • Henry Sorsaia led the Redskins (3-1) with 20 points and Garrett DeFries scored 16. Bear Bellomy sank 17 points to lead the Generals (5-1) and Zack Fisher (11) and Toby Show (15) both scored in double-figures.

  • LOGAN 63, CABELL MIDLAND 48:: Logan nailed eight 3-pointers to hold off visiting Cabell Midland. Zak Miller led the Wildcats (2-2) with 15 points and Braxton Goff and Kareem Clansy each scored 10. Theodore Petitt notched 15 points to lead the Knights (2-3).
  • LINCOLN COUNTY 46, DODDRIDGE 44: Andrew Davis hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to lift Lincoln County over Doddridge County in the Ritchie County Holiday Tournament championship. Schyler Kelly led the Panthers (2-5) with 17 points and Davis finished with 11 points. Ashton Hinzman led the Bulldogs (1-4) with 14 points.
  • SUMMERS 63, MEADOW BRIDGE 58: TJ Smith posted 21 points as Summers County won at home. Matt Ryan added 13 points for the Bobcats (2-2). Logan Pomeroy and Kaleb Farr had 16 points apiece for Meadow Bridge.

  • GREENBRIER EAST 65, PRESTON 51: Chaunte McDowell poured in 31 points as host Greenbrier East won in the championship game of the Spartan Holiday Invitational in Lewisburg. Sydney Nunley added 10 points and 19 rebounds for East (7-0). Karlee Good scored 16 points to pace Preston (4-3) and Emma McClelland chipped in 11.
  • ROANE 59, WAYNE 28: Cassidy Taylor tallied 16 points as Roane County recorded a home win. Shania Lloyd chipped in 15 points for the Raiders. Taylor Bartram had 11 for Wayne.
  • POCAHONTAS 66, JAMES MONROE 45: Tristin Day erupted for 29 points as Pocahontas County cruised past James Monroe in the Summersville Armory Classic consolation game. Bobbie McNabb scored 13 for the Warriors (5-2) and Melissa Murphy and Sarah Ryder recorded 10 points each. Laine Shiflett led the Mavericks with 19 points.

    GW SWEEPS: George Washington walked away with the team title at the HYCAT Holiday Invitational Saturday at the University of Charleston Natatorium in Charleston.The Patriots posted a team score of 825.5 points, followed by Hurricane (448.5), Capital (275) and Nitro (220).On the girls side, GW's Emily Hageboeck tallied victories in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while Jordyn O'Dell also picked up two wins (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke). Nitro's Jillian Clemens had a win in the 200 individual medley and Claire Coleman of Hurricane won the 100 butterfly.With the boys, Josh Barnette (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Zach Kidd (100 butterfly, 500 freestyle) each had a pair of individual wins for George Washington.
