WVU belting William & Mary

West Virginia's slow start at the Civic Center today mattered little.

The Mountaineers fell behind William & Mary 6-2, but then used a 21-2 run to take control and at halftime lead the Tribe, 41-24.

The catalyst was a quick series of possessions when the game was tied at 8. First Remi Dibo hit a second-chance 3-pointer after his first was an air ball, then two possessions later hit another 3 in transition. In between was a transition tomahawk dunk by point guard Juwan Staten.

That began a 15-0 run that broke the game open. The Mountaineers (7-5) led by as many as 21 points late in the half, 37-16, before William & Mary (6-4) closed the gap just a bit at the break.

Staten, Dibo and Terry Henderson led the Mountaineers with nine points each in the first half and Staten also had four assists.

Tim Rusthoven scored William & Mary's first six points and finished the first half with a team-high eight.
