Local colleges: West Virginia State tops Wise in overtime
West Virginia State got 32 points apiece from Dominic Phillips and Bo King to edge Virginia-Wise 113-111 in overtime Thursday at the Prior Center in Wise, Va.The Cavaliers (7-4, 3-4 Mountain East Conference) struggled from the free-throw line, making just 31 of 49 (63 percent), while the Yellow Jackets (5-5, 2-5) connected on 25 of 29 from the line (86 percent). Deon Boyce turned in 35 points and 20 rebounds for Wise in the losing effort.
UC 81, CONCORD 73: Aleksander Kesic exploded for 24 points as Charleston recorded a road win over Concord. Tino diTrapano chipped in 13 points for the Golden Eagles (7-4, 4-3 MEC).
The Mountain Lions (5-8, 2-5) were paced by A.J. Williams with 18 points.
UC 65, CONCORD 61: Chryess Lockhart netted 14 points as Charleston (8-3, 4-3) beat host Concord at the Carter Center in Athens. Andrea Bertrand paced the Mountain Lions (4-6, 2-5) with a game-high 25 points.
STATE 56, WISE 48: West Virginia State went on a 15-2 run late in the second half to score a road win over Virginia-Wise.
Lexy Carson led the way for the Yellow Jackets (9-4, 5-2) with 21 points. Katie Jo Lester netted 14 points for the Cavaliers (6-5, 2-5).
