Prep roundup: Sorsaia's bucket lifts Hurricane past Point
Henry Sorsaia hit a driving layup with two seconds left as Hurricane escaped Point Pleasant with a 60-59 boys basketball victory Thursday night.The Big Blacks (4-4) took a 59-58 lead with 7.4 seconds left when Wade Martin (17 points) scored on a layup, then the Redskins (5-1) ran a play against Point's 1-3-1 full-court pressure defense. Garrett DeFries inbounded to Sorsaia near halfcourt, and Sorsaia had one man to beat off the dribble to sink his layup.Sorsaia led Hurricane with 25 points. Trey Dawson added 15 and Ace Estep 10. For Point, Aden Yates had 12 points and Nick Templeton and Alex Somerville each tallied 11. The Big Blacks led 19-6 after one quarter.
PARKERSBURG 71, ST. ALBANS 52: J'Darien Wade erupted for 31 points to lead Parkersburg over visiting St. Albans. The Big Reds (2-4) jumped out to a 40-22 halftime lead. St. Albans (1-5) was paced by Tanner Aliff's 11 points.
HUNTINGTON 66, RIPLEY 48: J.R. Howard had 15 points and five steals and Anthony Meadows added 13 points for the visiting Highlanders (4-0). For the Vikings (0-5), Kade Harrison scored 15 points and Luke Layhew 10.
MEADOW BRIDGE 56, VALLEY 49: Caitlin White scored 21 points for visiting Meadow Bridge. Shaely Redden recorded 13 points for the Wildcats. Kelsey Bird led the Greyhounds (2-5) with 19 points and Abby Buchan chipped in 13.
PIKEVIEW 85, RIVER VIEW 15: Lyndsay Hatfield (19 points, 10 rebounds), Courtney White (18 points, 12 rebounds) and Lauryn Hatfield (18 points, 11 steals) all recorded double-doubles for the host Panthers (8-1).
CHAPMANVILLE 48, SISSONVILLE 46: Kristen DesRocher made a pair of free throws with 36 seconds left to seal a win for host Chapmanville. DesRocher finished with 11 points for the Tigers (5-3), and Abby Marcum paced the team with 16. Brittany Gould posted 16 points for Sissonville and Karli Pinkerton added 15.
MIDLAND TRAIL 47, GREEN. WEST 32: Haley Nickell netted 15 points as host Midland Trail (5-2) won. Kristen Harris had 19 points for Greenbrier West (2-3).
Wednesday's girls game
RAVENSWOOD 88, WILLIAMSTOWN 77: Hailey Miller exploded for 36 points as host Ravenswood took down Williamstown in girls basketball. Taylor Treadway contributed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Claudia Cubides scored 12 for the Red Devils. Samantha Dedrick led the Yellowjackets with 18 points and Melissa Cieslewski netted 17.
GAMES POSTPONED: Thursday's water crisis resulted in some games being called off Thursday evening involving Kanawha Valley teams.Boys games included Winfield at Riverside and Nitro at George Washington. Also, the Buffalo at Poca girls game was postponed.
