Prep roundup: Skeens leads Poca girls past Wayne 48-34
Casey Skeens scored 22 points, 15 in the second half, as Poca beat winless Wayne 48-34 in girls high school basketball Monday.Seven other players scored for the Dots (2-6), while Ally Gue had 11 to lead Wayne (0-7).
HURRICANE 72, ELK VALLEY 50: Elk Valley Christian took a 20-19 lead after the first quarter, but the Redskins outscored the visitors 53-30 the rest of the way.
Abby Watson scored 27 points for Hurricane (4-3) while Taneisha Sturdavent added 15, Emily Browning 13 and Kaylee Wooten 10. Chelsea Burdette notched 22 points for Elk Valley while Jamie Brown and Katie Burdette had 10 apiece.
GREENBRIER EAST 55, CATHOLIC 35: Chaunte' McDowell scored 24 points as Greenbrier East earned a home win. Sydney Nunley added 20 points and 18 rebounds for the Spartans (9-0), while Hannah Gallian paced Charleston Catholic (7-2) with 16.
SUMMERS 71, PRINCETON 46: Brittany Justice totaled 17 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists in leading the visiting Bobcats past the Tigers. Brandy Morrison added 23 points and 10 boards for Class AA Summers (7-0). Ashley Culicerto notched 12 points for Class AAA Princeton (0-7) and Kaleigh Barker donated 11.
CHAPMANVILLE 66, TUG VALLEY 40: Kristen DesRocher netted 17 points as Champmanville (6-4) rolled to a home win. Madison May had nine points for Tug Valley.
CLAY 73, CALHOUN 23: Mckinzee Barker tallied 19 points and Katelyn Horrocks added 16 to lead Clay County (9-2) to a home win. Makayla Smith led Calhoun County with seven points.
PIKEVIEW 60, JAMES MONROE 59: Madison May hit two free throws with eight seconds left to give visiting PikeView a win. Lyndsay Hatfield scored 18 points to lead the Panthers (9-1) while May added 12. Rebecca Sparks paced James Monroe with 16 points followed by Lane Shiflet with 15, Carter Shiflet with 13 and Makaila Moran with 11.
RIPLEY 67, NITRO 61: Jamison Hunt recorded 27 points as Ripley bested visiting Nitro. Kade Harrison chipped in 15 points for the Vikings. Trevor Taylor had 24 points for Nitro and J.P. Mawyer scored 14.
CATHOLIC 65, BRAXTON 39: Nick George erupted for 27 points as Charleston Catholic recorded a road win. Garrett McCarty contributed 11 points for the Irish (5-1). Braxton County (1-6) was paced by Cody Hilton with 17 points.
MIDLAND TRAIL 66, WEBSTER 60: The host Highlanders rallied from a 10-point deficit to tie the game at 57 with a minute to go, but Webster County outscored them 9-3 the rest of the way. Rickie Carter scored 25 points to lead the Midland Trail attack, with Collin Carte adding 14 and Seth Crosier 10. Webster (1-7) was led by Dalton Davis' 16 points and Logan Taylor's 11. The Highlanders were playing without Bobby Cogar, injured in their previous game.
