With its eight-game losing skid in the rear-view mirror, WVU Tech will try to build a streak in the right direction when it plays at home against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 8 tonight at the Neal D. Baisi Center.The contest will be the second home game in a row for Tech (9-9), but just the eighth home game in 19. The last game had a welcome result for the Bears, a 94-74 win over Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday night.The game marked the coming-out for big man Stephen Coles, who scored 20 points and brought down 13 rebounds. The transfer from Arkansas Tech was playing his third game since becoming eligible at Tech.After tonight, the Bears go on the road to play Wilberforce (Ohio) on Saturday before returning for home games Jan. 23 against Washington Adventist and Jan. 25 against Campbellsville (Ky.).nn
WVU TECH: Tech women's basketball player Nia Nolan and wrestler Alfred Martinez have been named the Golden Bear Star Performers of the Week.
Nolan scored a team-high 14 points in the Golden Bears' 62-56 win over Washington Adventist University Sunday afternoon, pushing the junior's string of consecutive double-digit scoring efforts to 10 games.Martinez, wrestling at 133 pounds, moved to 10-2 on the season by taking a 6-5 decision against St. Andrews on Friday and a 6-4 decision at the Washington & Lee Invitational on Saturday.nn
WVU WRESTLING: WVU wrestling coach Craig Turnbull has added Alex Thompson to the 2014-15 recruiting class. Thompson, a senior from Haddon Heights, N.J., posted a 38-0 record on his way to the New Jersey heavyweight state title, earning him South Jersey Wrestler of the Year award.nn
