Girls roundup: Watson hits milestone in Hurricane's win over Princeton

Abby Watson scored 34 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark as host Hurricane downed Princeton 68-40 Thursday in girls basketball.Watson, who now stands at 1,005 points in her career, tallied 19 points in the opening quarter as the Redskins surged in front 26-13. She also grabbed 13 rebounds.Taneisha Sturdavent chipped in 19 points and 17 boards for Hurricane (6-3), which only led 32-28 at halftime after netting six points in the second period. Hurricane put together a 21-7 third quarter to put the game away.Sarah Cole notched 17 points for the Tigers (0-9) and Ashley Culicerto added 11.
  • HUNTINGTON 61, GW 46: Jordyn Dawson turned in 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace the host Highlanders.
  • Dazha Congleton pitched in 11 points and Ericka Budd had eight points and 10 boards for Huntington (10-1). Shi Banks totaled 17 points for George Washington (2-4) and Alanna Mobayed donated 10.

  • Haylea Roberson paced the Generals (4-2) with 24 points and Karly Rogers added 12.
  • LOGAN 75, LINCOLN COUNTY 35: Monica Mitchell recorded a double-double with 18 points and 19 rebounds as Logan won at home.

  • Anna Hayton recorded 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Patriots (9-0). Mariah Callen led the Hawks (10-2) with 12 points and broke University's all-time scoring record of 1,418 points. She currently has 1,430.
  • ROANE 54, SOUTH HARRISON 20: Shania Lloyd and Cassidy Taylor scored 14 points apiece as Roane County earned a road win. Mary Kate Westfall chipped in 12 points for the Raiders.

  • CROSS LANES 59, GREATER BECKLEY 12: Laura Jones scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as host Cross Lanes Christian routed Greater Beckley Christian.
  • Courtney Kendrick posted 16 points for Cross Lanes (9-2) and Abby Jeffrey scored 10.
  • ELK VALLEY 54, VALLEY 27: Hannah Williams netted a game-high 24 points as visiting Elk Valley Christian posted a win. Valley (2-6) was led by Abby Buchan with 10 points.
