Marshall basketball: Herd loses to ODU, hits 20 losses

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall men's basketball team lost at Old Dominion, 70-63, on Thursday night to give the Thundering Herd its fourth 20-loss season in program history.Marshall (9-20, 3-11 Conference USA) squandered a 27-25 halftime lead to lose its third consecutive game. It is the fifth separate losing skid of three or more games this season.Herd freshman point guard Kareem Canty led the way with 24 points on 8 of 18 shooting (3-for-7 on 3s). Chris Thomas added 17 points.
Aaron Bacote scored 22 points to lead ODU (14-15, 8-6 C-USA).
The other 20-loss seasons in Marshall's history came in 1964-65, when coach Ellis Johnson's team went 4-20; 1991-92 under coach Dwight Freeman (7-22); and 2004-05, which was a 6-22 campaign under coach Ron Jirsa.Marshall's final two regular season games are at home: Sunday against East Carolina at 2 p.m., and next Thursday against Charlotte at 7 p.m.
