CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia and Marshall baseball teams will both play in the Caravelle Resort Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. this weekend, but despite having several common opponents the Thundering Herd and Mountaineers will not play each other.WVU (2-4) plays Duke today at 2 p.m., Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and James Madison on Sunday at 1:30. Junior left-hander and reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Harrison Musgrave will get the start for the Mountaineers against the Blue Devils. Musgrave (1-0) struck out eight with one walk during seven innings of work in a 6-2 win at San Diego State last weekend. West Virginia will send junior right-hander Sean Carley (0-0) to the bump Saturday against Coastal Carolina and junior left-hander John Means (1-1) will start against James Madison.The Thundering Herd (3-4) will play four games this weekend, taking on James Madison on Friday at 10:30 a.m., Duke (at 10 a.m.) and Coastal Carolina (at 8:30 p.m.) on Saturday and closing the weekend against Rhode Island on Sunday at 10 a.m.Senior Josh King will get the start for Marshall against James Madison, with sophomore St. Albans native Michael Taylor (1-1) scheduled to pitch Saturday against Duke. Junior right-hander Matt Margaritonda will get the ball against Coastal Carolina and freshman Roscoe Blackburn will be called on against Rhode Island on Sunday. n n
Marshall's trip to the Carolinas this weekend will be the Thundering Herd's third in as many weeks, with one more to come next weekend. Marshall opens Conference USA play with a three-game series at East Carolina starting Friday, March 7. n n
West Virginia State will look to remain unbeaten when it hosts doubleheaders against Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday and Sunday.The Yellow Jackets (2-0) beat visiting Glenville State in both games of a doubleheader last Sunday. Junior Jack Hudson collected a total of four RBI with a two-run home run in State's 7-3 win in the first game and a two-run double in a 5-3 win in the second game. This weekend's game the third and fourth of an 11-game home stand for the Yellow Jackets that includes contests against Fairmont State next weekend and a visit from Bluefield State on March 11. n n
The University of Charleston (3-0) hosts West Liberty for a pair of doubleheaders today and Saturday at Triana Field in Kanawha City with games scheduled to start at 1 p.m. both days.The Golden Eagles are schedule for five consecutive games at Appalachian Power Park following this weekend's series against the Hilltoppers. UC hosts Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday and then doubleheaders on March 8 and 9 against Shepherd. n n
