Before Live on the Levee’s concerts can be heard from Haddad Riverfront Park each Friday in June, Charleston Town Center mall will host a smaller outdoor concert series at its Court Street entrance that will serve as a prelude to the riverfront tradition.
“Court Street Live!” will return to the mall’s sidewalk for its second year on June 2, providing community members and mall-goers with an “enhanced happy hour experience” from 4 to 6 p.m. each Friday this June.
“We’d like to invite people to come on over to enjoy some great apps and some great drink specials before they head on down to the riverfront for Live on the Levee,” said Lisa McCracken, marketing director for Charleston Town Center.
The concert series, sponsored by Coca-Cola, will allow patrons of Tidewater Grill, Chili’s, Outback and Qdoba to enhance their restaurant experience, McCracken’s said, through live entertainment.
Each week will feature a different local performer for the family-friendly sidewalk concerts, including Charleston-based Qiet on June 9.
“The arts help develop evolution, develop economy, develop politics. [They are] a necessity — a basic need for every culture,” said Qiet frontman Christopher Vincent. “It’s the foundation of progress and development of culture, and the fact that businesses are paying money for this is indicative of a lot of things.”
McCracken said the event is back “by popular demand,” and is a unique, but important, opportunity for the Charleston arts scene.
“This is part of our contribution to an outdoor concert series as we add to the excitement of the arts for downtown Charleston,” McCracken said. “We’d like to continue in the years to come, and eventually to be able to stand here and announce every Friday during the summer that we’ll do this small concert series.”
