Record Store Day returns Saturday to Charleston celebrating all things vinyl and offering music and pop culture fans limited edition treasures to add to their collections.
This year, artists and record labels have apparently opened the flood gates, with hundreds of specials, rarities and re-releases from classic bands like The Grateful Dead, The Doors and Fleetwood Mac.
There are offerings from Jason Isbell, Neil Young and Coheed & Cambria, as well as music from the estates of Prince and David Bowie.
Budget Tapes and Records in Kanawha City, Sullivan’s Records on Charleston’s East End and Elk City Records on the West Side will be participating in Record Store Day.
All three stores will open at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Budget Tapes will have live music through most of the day, beginning at 11 a.m., featuring Sean Richardson, Spencer Elliott, Andy Park and more.
Elk City Records will also have live music Saturday morning and Sullivan’s Records will have a BYOB music happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. where customers can share music they bought during Record Store Day with other music fans.
