PHOTOS: Hundreds of students enjoy Capital City Pumpkin Drop

More than 1,200 students from 38 schools gathered Thursday at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston for the 18th annual Capital City Pumpkin Drop, where students try to build a contraption to keep their gourds intact after being dropped from a great height. Students from Clay County High School won the overall championship.

Other winners included: elementary school division, first place, New River Elementary; second place, Justice Elementary; third place, Ansted Elementary; middle school division, first place, Walton Middle; second place, Ripley Middle; third place, East Fairmont Middle; high school division, first place, Huntington High; second place, Greenbrier East High; third place, George Washington High; most sustainable, Clay County High; most creative design, George Washington High; team spirit, West Chapmanville Elementary; poster contest winner, John Adams Middle.
