Prep roundup: South Charleston upsets No. 2 Hurricane in baseball

South Charleston erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-7 road win over Class AAA No. 2 Hurricane in high school baseball action Wednesday.

Antonio Brown and Cole Lanier had two hits apiece for SC (2-4), while Brown, Isaiah Moss and Jared Hill each had two RBI.

For Hurricane (2-1), J.T. Rogoszewski and Alex Estep had two hits apiece. Austin Hensley had an RBI for the Redskins.

Winfield 14, Point Pleasant 1 – Bryan Bosley tossed his third complete game of the season in leading the Generals (3-4) at home. Bosley scattered four hits in the win.

Tate Hancock had three hits and four RBI for Winfield, while John Bellomy knocked in five runs.

Ripley 13, Herbert Hoover 3 — The Vikings pounded out 13 hits in the road win. Chris Jordan led Ripley with three hits, including a double, triple and homer, while Anthony Jarvis added two hits and three RBI.

For Hoover (7-1), Tristan Fields had homer and an RBI to go with two singles, followed by Hunter White and Cody Bowen with two hits apiece.

In softball play:

South Charleston 8, Riverside 0 — The Black Eagles (3-5) won their second straight with the shutout road win.

Sophomore pitcher Amanda McDonald struck out seven and allowed just four hits in picking up the win.

Jazmine Martin and Kaylee Stanley had two hits apiece for the Black Eagles. Martin had two RBI, while Stanley and Kelly Knuckles knocked in one run apiece.

For Riverside, Kendal Marshall was 2-for-2.

Ripley 8, George Washington 0 — Chelsey Hager tossed a five inning no-hitter as the Vikings won on the road. Hager finished with nine strikeouts, but also walked four batters.

Megan Brannon had three hits including a double, triple and two RBI, while Tori Anderson, Dusti Fisher and Kelsey Moore had two hits apiece.

George Washington dropped to 5-4.
