Prep roundup: Ripley deals Hoover baseball its first loss

Jared Bumpus surrendered 13 hits in a complete-game effort as visiting Ripley handed Herbert Hoover its first loss, a 7-3 decision Wednesday in prep baseball.

Chris Jordan went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, homer and RBI for Class AAA Ripley, and Anthony Jarvis banged out two hits and knocked in three runs. The Vikings plated five runs in the top of the third and never looked back.

Tristan Fields went 3 for 3 with a solo home run for Class AA Hoover (7-1).

Nicholas County 13, Webster County 3: Nicholas County scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to put away visiting Webster County. Tyler Sagraves went 2 for 4 with two doubles and Jimmy Pritt smashed a home run to lead the Grizzlies (2-2). Evan Lane went 1 for 3 with a double to lead the Highlanders (0-2).

Clay 11, Braxton 1: Chris Cole (3 for 3) stroked a double and triple and drove in three runs to spark host Clay County to victory. Dalton Holcomb added two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers (3-2). Greg Bly had an RBI single for Braxton County (2-1).

Winfield 14, Point Pleasant 1: Bryan Bosley gave up one run on four hits as host Winfield beat Point Pleasant in five innings. Bear Bellomy went 2 for 3 with five RBIs and Tate Hancock went 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Generals (3-4). Austen Toler led the Big Blacks with two hits.

SC 9, Hurricane 7: South Charleston used a seven-run fifth inning to edge host Hurricane. Antonio Brown went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and Jared Hill added a two-run double to pace the Black Eagles. Austin Hensley doubled and J.T. Rogoszewski went 2 for 4 to lead the Redskins (2-1).

Valley 12, Meadow Bridge 2: John Riddle struck out 12 as Valley took down visiting Meadow Bridge in six innings. Riddle went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Joseph Eckert had two hits and four RBIs to lead the Greyhounds (4-0). Craig Peters doubled for the Wildcats (0-2).

Ravenswood 11, Buffalo 0: Heath Burgess gave up three hits as Ravenswood beat host Buffalo in five innings. Isaac Crow laced a triple and drove in three runs to lead the Red Devils (3-4).

RIPLEY 8, GW 0: Chelsey Hager fired a no-hitter, striking out nine as Ripley shut out host George Washington. Meghan Brannon went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Tori Anderson added a double and an RBI for the Vikings.

Wayne 4, Point Pleasant 1: The visiting Pioneers used solid pitching and timely hits to get past the Big Blacks. Jessie Rowe scattered eight hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter for Wayne, while J.C. Parsons went 2 for 4 and drove in a run and Ali Maynard tripled in a run. Makinley Higginbotham went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Point (3-2), which committed four errors.

Hurricane 13, Spring Valley 5: Amber Null and Katie Adams knocked in four runs apiece as the visiting Redskins downed the Timberwolves. Null went 2 for 3 with a double while Adams pounded out two hits, including a round-tripper. Courtney Rogers added a homer and two RBIs for Hurricane (7-0), and Addie Fullen had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Jade Spurlock went 3 for 4 with a homer and Haley Caldwell also homered for Spring Valley (6-2).

Catholic sweeps Trail: Talia Corbett picked up a pair of pitching victories and Brianna Ross went 4 for 5 with three homers and drove in seven as Charleston Catholic earned a 13-3, 14-4 doubleheader sweep at Little Creek Park against Midland Trail (0-3). Katie Pulliam went 5 for 6 in the two games and drove in four runs for the unbeaten Irish (8-0).

Ravenswood sweeps Calhoun: 14, Calhoun County 0: Savanna Casto threw a three-inning no-hitter as visiting Ravenswood defeated Calhoun County 14-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. Casto went 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI, and Claudia Cubides went 1 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Red Devils. In the second game, Casto went 3 for 3 with three doubles and three RBIs as Ravenswood scored an 11-0 decision. Cubides went 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for the Red Devils. Kayla Lamb went 1 for 1 to lead Calhoun County.

South Charleston 8, Riverside 0: South Charleston scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning as it won at home. Kelly Knuckles went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Kaylee Stanley had two hits and an RBI to lead the Black Eagles (3-5). Kendall Marshall laced two hits for the Warriors.

SA sweeps Winfield: Madi Marshall gave up just four runs across two games as homestanding St. Albans defeated Winfield 4-3 and 4-1 in a doubleheader. Haili McKown, Katie Holstein, Whitney Jones and Amber Kemplin each had an RBI for the Red Dragons (4-3) in the first game, and Marshall had a double and an RBI for St. Albans in the second game. Kenna Marcum had a double and two RBIs for the Generals in the first game, and Abby Short recorded two hits for Winfield in the second game.

Tuesday’s game

Williamstown 8, Ravenswood 0: Cierra King allowed just three hits and struck out four in five innings as Williamstown blanked visiting Ravenswood. Emrie Gray went 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and King drove in a run on two hits to lead the Yellowjackets. Sidnee Morgan went 1 for 1 with a double to lead the Red Devils.
