West Side hike

Charleston Montessori School will sponsor a hike at 12:30 p.m. today for a hike from the school, 805 Price St., to Magic Island with a stop by the Pier-to-Pier project. The hike is just over a 1 mile each way. This is the third of 10 hikes in the school’s annual Life’s a Hike spring community hike series. Hike participants are invited to bring towels or cans of puppy/kitten food for the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. For information, call the school at 304-340-9000 or visit www.educatewv.com.

Girls’ night out

The South Charleston Public Library’s annual Girls’ Night Out will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the library, 312 Fourth Ave. The night will feature local businesses such as Prestigious Nail Spa, Origami Owl, Hope Tours, Womans’ Club of South Charleston and more. Registration is not required. Door prizes will be offered. For information, call the library at 304-744-6561.

Open stage and coffee house

Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to its monthly Open Stage and Coffee House with host Ron Sowell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at its location, 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle roads. Local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. The performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost.

BARC adoption event/hot dog sale

The Boone Animal Rescue Coalition will have an adoption event/hot dog sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Green’s Feed and Seed, 319 Piedmont Road. There will be several adoptable dogs there as well as a hot dog sale complete with homemade chili and slaw, chips, drinks, baked good and homemade candy. All proceeds benefit the homeless dogs of Boone County in the care of BARC, a West Virginia-based rescue organization focused on eliminating euthanasia at the Boone County dog pound.
