Charleston man sentenced on federal gun charge
A Charleston man was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Curtis Watkins, 25, pleaded guilty in October to having a loaded 9-millimeter pistol near Sistah’s Rib Shack on the West Side two years ago, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s office.
In 2009, Watkins was convicted of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, a felony. Watkins was still on federal supervision for the drug charge when he was found with the gun, the release states.
U.S District Judge John Copenhaver gave Watkins seven years on the gun charge and an additional year for violating the conditions of his supervised release.
